Are the quizzes and tests scheduled in Integrated Physics & Chemistry?
No. Which is part of the reason they are only awarded 1 credit of science with the completion of that course.

Re: Question about Preparing hearts and CTC

After looking again and prayer I decided to go ahead and purchase Preparing. I have wanted to try HOD for so long that I want to make sure I start in the right place for my kiddos. My 4th grader is a little more advanced and my 6th grader is more 5/6 defiantly a 5th grade math level. Thank you for ...

Re: Preparing student sheets for 20/21?

Oh, Julie! I'm so sorry to hear about the death of the graphic designers' wife! I want to extend our condolences to him and his family on behalf of all of us on the FB groups for HOD. I will pass your reply on to the groups so we are aware and can be praying for the family and the rest of the HOD fa...

Re: Combining for Jr/Sr High LA

I just got this now, Carrie. Not sure why I didn't get a notification when you posted.

Yes, that makes sense. I've put it down the way you've suggested, but recognize that there is some flexibility when we get there. Thank you so much for your help!

Re: How is evolution approached?

Would you say that some of the materials used in AO could actually cause kids to question the truth of the Bible? I wouldn't say that. (They *could* but I don't have any basis on which to assume they would.) I don't think my kids questioned the Bible at all when we switched from AO. That certainly ...

Re: Combining for Jr/Sr High LA

Thank you, Carrie! On my way over to my spreadsheet to capture these thoughts "on paper" before they are lost, lol. With my younger being much more motivated than the older, I think this will work nicely, and I look forward to streamlining a bit! Thank you! And one "funny" for you. . . Not knowing e...

Re: How is evolution approached?

Yes, and in addition to Young Earth/literal 6 day creation, HOD books in mid-elementary/early middle school go on to explain about dinosaurs: present on the Ark, fossils due to the flood, died out due to climate changing post-flood (Ice Age, etc.), the source of most dragon tales throughout various ...

Re: World Geo - Chemistry and Physics ?

My first 3 kids (who did IPC together) are not STEM-bound, plus our provincial credit requirements are 120 hrs/course (rather than 150-180 in some places) so I made the decision to add the quizzes and tests back in (making it a VERY full science year - 1 - 1 1/2 hrs per day - which is equivalent to ...

Combining for Jr/Sr High LA

My middle 2 are in CTC (started last month) and Rev2Rev (starting in October), so less than 2 guides apart. I have combined my oldest 3 (also within 2 guides of each other) for LA through high school, and kind of just arrived there due to a combination of original placement, LDs and a bit of plannin...

Re: Sneak Peek #4: New US2 High School Guide:

I have done this with several guides (used higher science or electives with a lower guide). We have used only Personal Finance from US 2, and had to purchase the guide for the plans. We won't ever (even though I have 8 children) use the full US 2 guide, because we are Canadian, and US History isn't ...

Re: Dictation

While I agree with the "top of the column until it becomes a bit challenging" concept, I wouldn't start with level 2 if he's an average student (only if he's really struggling with spelling or memory). If following HOD, and starting dictation in Preparing (the latest someone would - Bigger is also a...

Re: A Detailed Scope and Sequence?

In particular, is computer knowledge covered? Typing? Microsoft Office? Any other software? I will let Julie or Carrie answer the scope and sequence question, but I can answer the one above: Computer knowledge is not covered, beyond the prompts to use the computer for research (wikipedia) in Prepar...

Re: Dithor with a struggling reader

I am reluctant to slow down CtC or any other guide, as I know it would not be good for him and his sister (dd8) to be any closer in guides. They are currently 1.5 guides apart, with her finishing Bigger next week. They are 20 months apart in age, and even today I would be more comfortable with her ...

Re: Roll Call: What are your starting/stopping/taking a break plans?

My oldest graduates (hopefully) this month. He still has work to do on his WG, and especially math, but doesn't seem to be trying too hard. :( He can apply for assistance/Covid relief as soon as he can prove he's done school, so in his case, time is money! But it's out of my hands; I just have to do...

Re: Update and a question

Do you find that it gets chaotic, with doing them all at once? Do you have them take turns? Next fall I will have four kids who need to do dictation most days. No, I don't find it chaotic, but they do need to learn patience if multiple kids finish writing their phrase at the same time. I just read ...
