Re: When/How to use extended reading packs

My daughter wants to have her own course this year because things were often held up last year attempting to work with her younger brother who would not often cooperate or work well with her to get something done. So I don’t know yet whether combining or having an additional guide (4 total) to go t...

Re: When/How to use extended reading packs

* Preparing is fine for 3rd-5th without Extensions. Your 6th grader/12yo can do this with Extensions, if you want to keep them together. * CTC is fine for 4th through 6th without Extensions, but since your 6th grader is 12, the Extensions would be optional based on their reading level/proficiency, y...

Re: Coming back to HOD in a year

Welcome back (soon)! I remember your user name from my early days with HOD (6 years ago). And if you weren't here then, then it was reading back-posts.

Re: NBing pages & new guides: moving forward

With the current guide, students make their own notebooks, using a 3-ring binder. All of the instructions are in the guide and are easy for the students to follow. HTH :) Yes! The way Preparing was originally written is perfectly fine! Students follow the directions to make their own pages. The new...

Re: World Geography World Religion has a new book

Hope that's somewhat helpful..... ;) Yes, thank you. However, since I have Japan Diary, I would like to continue to use that, so I'm wondering if that's possible, or if this is another replacement that I am forced to buy, even though I own a complete set. Are there any sets of NBing pages left suit...

Are there notebooking pages for Preparing? They didn’t come with my set.

Carrie or Julie, could you answer the last two questions from last year?

Thank you!

Re: NBing pages & new guides: moving forward

Hmmm. Not sure where my response to you went, but I'll try again! We do not have plans to rewrite the guides to require changes to the notebooking pages, except to possibly add notebooking pages to guides that do not already have them. Our goal is to make schooling easier and better with each change...

Re: Drawn into the Heart of Reading/Storytime

Storytime is intended for the student to hear aloud excellent literature at a level likely higher than they can comfortably read at that level and length each day. It also adds to their understanding of the time period being studied, if you choose the History-based set of books. If you choose the Bo...

Re: Faltering in my decisions

I think you need to decide what is most important to you: autonomy or sticking with a plan for a full year. There is a hump-time every year, even for those of us sticking with the same curriculum that we used the year before. There is a point at which the plans and books are no longer new and shiny,...

Re: Phonics and Handwriting

Don't worry about the order being different in the two different portions of HOD's LA. They don't contradict each other. At first it will mean more learned at the same time, but shortly they will be overlapping and supplementing each other. Your daughter will figure it out! :D

Re: A Detailed Scope and Sequence?

I have received all the materials needed to implement what we discussed. Now that I am looking at the details, if I have Ruth do the extensions in MTMM, what incentives does she have to read those books? The teacher's guide has activities for the basic books but no activities for the extension book...

Re: Placement pre-k/k

I personally prefer to wait to use LHFHG for 1st. It is easy to use LHTH and add in the K options from LHFHG and a daily Storytime for K, then add phonics when they are ready. This ensures they will be well prepared for each guide's step up in skills, and (ideally) not get caught where the guides ou...

NBing pages & new guides: moving forward

I understand that HOD guides, moving forward, are being printed in color. I also recognize that several changes have been required through the years (CTC Bible Study, RTR Medieval writing, etc.) so that schedules have been updated and books switched. Have any of those changes affected ANY levels of ...

Are the quizzes and tests scheduled in Integrated Physics & Chemistry?
No. Which is part of the reason they are only awarded 1 credit of science with the completion of that course.
