Re: High School Nature Study

I called it Art in Nature, and classified it as a Fine Arts course, instead of science.
You may want to check what your state requires for credit hours, and add drawing time or other studies/hours as needed. (Ours is 60 hrs for a half credit.)

Re: little hands curriculum books

If you go to the LHTH page you can click the link right below the guide title for the Little Hearts packages. Here's the direct link: https://www.heartofdakota.com/little-hands-packages.php On that page the package options are written out twice; once at the top of the page and once at the bottom rig...

Re: Dictation: Question and Request

How do we do the hyphens? for instance Level 5 passage 3 at the end there is 'Are we - May and I." -Lucy Larcom' Do we say the dash or do we read it how we would speak and they know where the dashes/hyphens are? Thanks! Read it how you speak. That's why they study the passage. :D It teaches them to...

Re: Dictation: Question and Request

My oldest does Dictation when we do storytime, and my other two do dictation currently with Dithor. It helps us to have a set subject to do then with so we don't miss it! We ended up doing it daily this way, but I think that if actually a good thing! Yes to this! Doing Dictation daily (even though ...

Re: Dictation: Question and Request

First off, for placement, take a look at the levels and choose one that looks easy for each son. Have them start at the beginning and do just the top passage in each column (one per day, moving on when done perfectly). Usually the first time they need a second day to get a passage right, we just kee...

Re: Confused, Struggling

As for the Kickoffs and projects. We did the projects for these but how would I do kickoffs? Especially if they aren't doing the same book. That's actually one part I found that DID work with kids in different levels - I just made sure they both did the same genre at the same time. Even if they wer...

Re: Confused, Struggling

Sounds like a great idea. I would go ahead with Beyond for her, from whatever point you deem appropriate, but don't cut too much. Preparing is often best for 4th, not 3rd, so doing Bigger starting next fall would not have her "behind" at all. :D

Re: Confused, Struggling

Hi, C! You have a heavy load there. (When I look back, so did I when I came to HOD, but you do what you gotta do sometimes, right?) Here's my 2 cents: A - I'm going to defer to Carrie or Julie, but my thought would be to start with Rev2Rev. In general, if undecided between two guides, start with the...

Re: Elements: Ingredients of the Universe

We didn't write in ours. I've had 3 do MTMM and #4 will start next year, with 4 more to follow. We write in as few books as possible, and this one we kept for the others.

Re: Multiple ages

We started HOD 6 years ago with similar aged children! :D The first/most important thing is ensuring proper placement. I would print off the placment chart (https://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php) for each child, and circle the places each fits in the first 3 skills. (Math is completel...

Re: Preparing Hearts for His Glory

There is a new edition expected, in color, this month, I believe, along with the new HOD-published NBing pages. It has had to be postponed several times for various reasons, so I hope this is still on track. Hopefully Carrie or Julie will see this new thread soon! :D Before that, I'm not sure when t...

Re: Creation to Christ 2009 teacher's guide

There are 2 ways to get the schedule for The Radical Book: 1) purchase the old guide or the Radical Book from HOD - they will send you the schedule. 2) purchase the new (color) guide that just came out this spring, 2020 (the past several years' printings have still had the Genesis schedule). The onl...

Re: When/How to use extended reading packs

My daughter wants to have her own course this year because things were often held up last year attempting to work with her younger brother who would not often cooperate or work well with her to get something done. So I don’t know yet whether combining or having an additional guide (4 total) to go t...

Re: When/How to use extended reading packs

* Preparing is fine for 3rd-5th without Extensions. Your 6th grader/12yo can do this with Extensions, if you want to keep them together. * CTC is fine for 4th through 6th without Extensions, but since your 6th grader is 12, the Extensions would be optional based on their reading level/proficiency, y...

Welcome back (soon)! I remember your user name from my early days with HOD (6 years ago). And if you weren't here then, then it was reading back-posts.
