HOD in a very small school setting

I am in a unique position as my husband and I work in a ministry at a boarding school for troubled teens. WE have been in this ministry for 17 years but we have a high turn over rate of new staff. One of the things we offer is a school for children of the staff which I run. It has in the past few ye...

Re: Has a revised high school guide plan been stated?

I am so pleased to see that the American History Guide will be made available. My son has loved the World Geography and World History Guides. We have looked at some other things in case the American History guide wouldn't be available and haven't been able to find anything we liked.

need reading assignment for WH unit 10 Day 1 History box

WE accidently left my sons plans at his Dad's work and he would like to finish his Unit 10 Day 1 plans. He only has the written narration left. Anyone share the reading assignment with us? We know it is Chapter 2 of People Places and Events of World History but not sure of lesson number.

Break from Guides for holidays or continue?

Everything in my brain says stick with the guides in order to finish by June. But my gut says my kids need a break. We are currently doing Beyond 1/2 speed with my 6 year old and Bigger full speed with an 8 year old. My 8 year old is starting to hit a rough spot were school is becoming long and draw...

Re: Attempting 6 Guides This Year

I too am doing 6 guides: world history, world geography, rev to rev, res to ref, bigger and Little Hearts. I however have a neighbor girl who was homeschooled herself and graduated last year as my helper working primarily with my two littles. What a blessing to have her. I find placing them in their...

Re: Sneak Peek #5: New World History Guide

If you click the link in the main post for the Art Project DVDs and go to the website, you can click on each of the titles individually and get a list of supplies for each project. I copied and pasted each into a Word Document, so I had a master list.

Re: High school hours???

I think the hours depend on the child. My current student who uses World Geography has days that take 7 hours but those are the days he is not on his game. He is very easily distracted but when he is focused, he can get done in 4 to 4 1/2 hours. It really depends on the student. My second son will s...

Re: A year of pilgrims?

It is not all pilgrims. We are on unit 23 and beginning to get into the revolutionary war period. My two kids, 6 and 7, had no trouble with the amount of time we spent on the pilgrims. They loved it. We learned so much.

High School Chemistry suggestions.

For those of you who have already taught high schoolers, I will have a sophomore next year doing the new World History Guide. He has already taken General Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, and Biology. Next logical Science is Chemistry. He loves Science and Math. He has taken pre-algebra, al...

Re: Thoughts on CLE Language Arts vs HOD language arts

My older two sons work pretty independently. When they have questions they seek me out. I often have to go to them to make sure they really are getting it because they work so well on their own. I try and go over stuff before we start a new unit and glance through what they will be doing. Sometimes ...

Re: Thoughts on CLE Language Arts vs HOD language arts

This is my first year with HOD (4 Guides). I too have been using CLE for the past two years for math and LA and decided to stick with them in place of HOD, but here are the results. We will continue to use their math through 8th grade level but we switch to Videotext when we hit Algebra. LA has been...

Re: Avoid Bigger and Preparing together?

Emily is truly gifted. She has always stood out amongst her peers and those who don't know her can not believe she is only 5. She potty trained at less than a year, and hit all milestones early. Taught herself beginning reading skills at 3. This is her second year of formal phonics instruction. She ...

Avoid Bigger and Preparing together?

From the posts I have read, teaching Bigger and Preparing at the same time is very teacher intensive. As I look forward here is where we are at. I am currently teaching 4 guides: World Geography, Resurrection to Reformation, Beyond and Little Hearts for His Glory. My 5 year old is very gifted and co...
