Re: Preparing versus CTC?

I'll be putting my 11yr old son in preparing as it is what he needs most. It was a guide that really taught my daughter how to transition into more independant work, gave her good research skills, encouraged her writing significantly, and prepared her for more mature reading. I can not say enough go...

Re: Do you ever wish you could start over?

dear sweet home schooling mama, how I hear your heart. how I know regret of changes. how I wrestled with guilt. But God, He is mercy and grace itself. He continues to refine me as a mother and teacher. He is patient, sooooo patient with me. The very best thing I learnt upon my return to HOD, is to j...

CTC WK18 box 6 help?

Was there a map DD can look at to use for colouring the Ancient Greece map. She is wanting to see 'exactly' where her borders should be going.
Or is any one willing to take a pic of their child's map and email us? I could message my addy.
Thank you for your time, Kteni

Re: Can WWTB be used in Res to Ref for writing?

Good idea, thank you Rice, I was thinking the SRN was the hard copy thing I could order additionally. I hope I can just put it on iBooks on the iPad at the library. Then I could print of the pages needed if need be.

Re: Can WWTB be used in Res to Ref for writing?

Thank you so much mamas, you have been so helpful. I think I will order the physical IEW student book as well. Creative writing is the only thing she remotely likes about English, so I think IEW will be the best plan as is. I really do appreciate this board and all the info sharing!

Re: Rod and Staff burn-out: Thank you my3sons!

Thank you for pointing out the encouragement you found in Julie's posts. I just read them and have taken to heart these gems. I am one who tried other L.A. programs in the last year but regretted it. I put my children's feelings above what they actually need, a firm foundation. When I put the R&S 3 ...

Re: Anyone Have Challenges With A Book of Discovery?

Jane Austin is a aquired taste. We are Jane lovers here and DD is stoked to read P&P eventually. She read Emma after watching the movie and it was a tough read. Watching several of the BBC versions of Jane Austin films helped us become more fluent in how English was spoken then. It is similar to rea...

Re: Can WWTB be used in Res to Ref for writing?

ok, so two good votes for IEW, but brings up another Q... how much online printing needs to be done? is thee a hard copy available to order? We don't have internet at home due to where we live, but I can get a bar on my cell phone. Down loading pages eats up data. Is this feasible?

Can WWTB be used in Res to Ref for writing?

I have been looking at the sample pages for Res to Ref and see that the Medi Hist Writing is used. Can we use Writing With The Best in Res To Ref instead? We have not used it in CTC (but should have, sigh). She will be using R&S English 6 next year. She will also do the Shakespeare option and is ver...

Re: A Plea for Help from You Wise Ladies!

I have children who are "behind" in provincial learning outcomes. Reading did not come easy to the first 2 but DC3 seems to be running with it. I had my son read through the emerging reader set at age 9/10 year and it helped immensely. He needed a steady incremental reading track. I wish I had known...

Re: wondering about going back to CTC

I had started DD13 in CTC for g7, we did 8 weeks and had to change curriculum to meet provincial PLOs. I put her back in it this dec of G8 because we just plain missed the Jesus pressence in it, the well laid out days, and the incremental improvements I saw in my children using HOD. I have her doing...

Re: Conference schedule

I have been checking a few vender lists and have not seen them confirmed on any yet.
I am HOPING ever so much they come to the west coast. I am sure they don't do Canada but the western states are missing out
Looking forward to hearing the list too!

Re: Concrete vs abstract thinking in BHFHG

That is a tough Q. I know only a little from Child Psych 150 waaaaaay back. But it seems age 9-11 is still mainly concrete and things like role play games help children identify others points of view. Reading good books helps them see through others points of view. It isn't thought that children rea...

Re: What Should We Expect - Reading About History

I don't ask them to do any Q's unless they are specifically assigned. I too find it lessens the impact of the reading because they just regergitate info just heard, instead of taking a bit of time to think about what they have just heard and make a connection with it. Makes it less textbooky and mor...
