Thankful for this message board
I don't post much here, but I just wanted to say that I am thankful for this message board. I am growing very weary of Facebook of late and it's a breath of fresh air to be able to come here and see how everyone is doing. Especially without the drama and over abundance of news and negativity that is...

Re: How are you all doing?
We are doing well here in Montana. Most everything is closed. Restaurants are available for drive thru or pick up. As of yesterday all non-essential businesses were required to close. Church is online(that's the hardest part for me so far). All of the kids activities have either been canceled or hav...

Placement help needed
Hi, We are considering coming back to HOD this fall. I have placement figured out for everyone except for my 14 year old son. He does not have any learning disabilities. I want to place him at the beginning of a history cycle, but the high school guides will be too much for him. He has not had enoug...

Can we talk learning styles?
I am always a bit overwhelmed when I see posts and articles on FB about learning styles. I agree to a certain extent that we should try to match our curriculum to our children's different leaning styles, but I also see some harm in putting such an emphasis on them too. After all, in the real world n...

Re: Public School teacher as a home schooler?
I have never taught public school, but probably like many of you I went to public school from K-12. When we first decided to hs our kids I did the same thing, looked at hs curriculum until I was nearly blind! I kept coming back to Charlotte Mason type studies and we ended up going with one and have ...

Re: Struggling with a slow-paced child-advice please!
Mitchell Family! I see you are from Montana too...very exciting! Thank you for the great advice. I honestly have been too lazy to put anything into place this year like what you suggested, but I will for sure be doing so once out next school year begins. For my own sanity as well as for ds confidenc...

Re: Struggling with a slow-paced child-advice please!
I have been brainstorming this afternoon. I don't know if I should implement some kind of a rewards system, but I don't want to bribe him to do his work either. I also thought of using a timer and making a game out of it, i.e., let's see if you can get done with this page before the timer goes off.....

Struggling with a slow-paced child-advice please!
Just wondering if anyone else out there struggles with a slow-paced child. I don't mean slow learner, I mean slow-paced. As in, not in a hurry to get anything done. Our oldest ds is almost 9 and he has been this way since he was a baby. He is very smart and picks up on things quickly. However, how d...

Re: Little vs. Beyond for 7 yo?
momof3kids, My biggest concern about jumping into BLHFHG I guess is the history. After looking over LHFHG on the site here, I don't want her to miss out on the history that is offered in this guide. It sounds like a great intro. to a biblical view of history. While she gets this in some respect at c...

Re: Little vs. Beyond for 7 yo?
Thank you for your advice! :) I'm thinking I should stick with my first instinct and place here in LHFHG. She is very smart, but I don't know if the attention span is there to jump right into BLHFHG at this point. We are going to work on math, phonics and reading through the summer so she will be th...

Little vs. Beyond for 7 yo?
I have asked questions about this before but now I am 2nd guessing myself. My dd will not turn 7 until November. We are just finishing Kindergarten. She is way ahead and I could have totally skipped the K program this year and went straight to 1st grade.(maybe it's just the curriculum we used) Looki...

Re: What does anyone here know about common core?
This whole issue was brought to my attention this past weekend. I have been looking into it ever since. I'd really rather just be able to ignore it and hope that it simply will go away. I know that it won't however so I thought I'd start finding out what other homeschoolers think about it. It has be...

What does anyone here know about common core?
I have been reading up on this whole common core curriculum junk that our gov't sneaked into stimulus package and 45 out of 50 states adopted it. What does anyone know about this and how it will affect homeschooling families? What is the best way to fight it? I for one am a little worried about it. ...

I need advice! Please!
Hey everyone! I take the kids to a p.e. "co-op" at our church every week. My dilemma is this, one of the ladies in charge is quite over-bearing and seems to think that she can direct the other mom's as far as watching our kids. However, her children are often the biggest problem. I don't want to sou...
