I was wondering if dc are to be completing all the writing assignments in Rod and Staff - even though, for example, in RTR they are completing a separate IEW writing program. This answer may be stated somewhere but I couldn't find it.
Thank you!

When do you "grade/check" their work?
As a busy mother to 5, I am just wondering when do you all grade or check over your students' work? The independent history assignments I go over with them right after they complete them (as soon as I can meet with them next!), but I am more referring to assignments like math, language arts, etc. Do...

Re: Morning Routine Questions for Julie
Thank you so much for your replies, and Julie, for all your helpful information on what has and is currently working for you in this season. I find your charts so helpful! I like the idea of giving them a weekly deadline for completing their chores rather than trying to manage it all in the morning ...

Morning Routine Questions for Julie
Hi there, I am hoping Julie can help me here, but I welcome any comments. We are in a very busy season right now with 5 children (3 school age/3 guides -, and 2 preschoolers), and several outside the home activities. I do not create order well and could really use all the help I can get. HOD is the ...

Re: Singapore Math Textbook Question
Ok Thank you! We have been using Singapore Standards Edition from the beginning up until this point. It was way too many problems so we always did less in the textbook. This year I switched everyone - we are following HOD's recommendation and using US Edition, and I want to make sure we are thorough...

Singapore Math Textbook Question
In the guides where Singapore Math is scheduled, has textbook and workbook pages scheduled. Is it meant that students should complete all of both textbook and workbook problems? Our routine has been to go over the textbook together, do some of the problems on the dry erase board, and then they compl...

need advice for structuring free reading time
I have been reading through scheduling posts. I am very impressed with how Carrie, Julie, and so many of you structure your days. I always liked the idea of having a reading/rest time during the day. With 5 children, our days are very packed with meeting all the needs of school, family, and home. Be...

Re: placement question for Bigger Hearts
Ok. Thank you all for your helpful advice! We will be starting Bigger Hearts next week! I like the idea of giving my daughter some independence with the Bigger's Extra Package for History before moving her to CtC, and giving her a good foundation in US History. I think I will have her do a written n...

Re: placement question for Bigger Hearts
Thank you all for your very helpful thoughts. Yes, I feel my DD10 will be fine with skills (I forgot to mention she is doing her level grammar, and we added in Latin for Children. We also do Apologia together in co-op so the science portion isn't an issue. I like the Bible Study part in CTC but mayb...

placement question for Bigger Hearts
Hello, We used HOD for the first time last year. I now have 5 children (looking to streamline a little this year) and this question pertains to my older 2 children. Last year my DD (now 10) did Preparing and my DS (now eight) did Beyond. They loved the books and we had a great year. My DD 10 has nev...

Re: s/o: Carrie's "long day" thread - how much sleep?
My 9 yr. old dd was like your son when she was little. She was getting plenty of sleep at night but woke up tired and yawned all day. We started noticing that she was tossing and turning a lot in her sleep, and she snored. I started really sitting by her bed and watching her sleep, and she actually ...

filing Preparing poetry creative writing?
Where do I file the creative writing assignments for poetry? Do I get another comp. book for this, or just use notebook paper?

Re: vocabulary index box vs. composition book
Julie, Thank you for your warm welcome. I met you at the FPEA convention and I am really looking forward to our first school year with HOD. This year my children will be using PHFHG , Beyond, LHTH, and we will have a sweet toddler in the midst of it! I am sure i will have many more questions as we b...

Re: vocabulary index box vs. composition book
Thank you all for your helpful responses. I think we will try the index card binder since we already are using several comp. books for other subjects, and I do like the idea of her being able to start a new card if she makes a mistake.

vocabulary index box vs. composition book
I am setting up my Preparing materials and trying to decide between my daughter using index cards or a tabbed composition book for her vocabulary words. I would like to know if anyone has a recommendation/if you prefer one over the other.
