Re: What to do for upcoming 9th grader

In reading through this post as well as pp posts about placement for dc, I am encouraged by the dedication of both Carrie and Julie to seeing that dc are well placed skill-wise and ready to accomplish every needed highschool skill. I do not see a lack of listening on their part, but rather a desire...

Re: What to do for upcoming 9th grader

I hesitate to post on this thread with an oldest going into 6th grade this fall. Yet, this thread has been on my heart for some time. Perhaps it is my own experience of being placed on this board too low for my children. Perhaps we fall into Carrie's comment that HOD is not right for every family. B...

Re: CTC writing

I love R&S English, but if I were you I wouldn't change to it if you and your dd are loving and doing well with what you are using. If you look on the CTC sample you will see in the Language Arts box R&S scheduled with dictation, DITHOR, and Writing With the Best. You will also see *Or your own gram...

Re: Placement Chart Help

Don't be sorry - I just didn't want to offend. Yes, we did ECC as well it just wasn't a good fit for us. Honestly, every level of HOD is wonderful! So you could look at a purely skill stand point. I would probably just get the placement chart out and circle where he places for everything except mat...

Re: Placement Chart Help

Sorry - I wasn't trying to pigeon hole him into a grade  . I guess I was just trying to imply that I thought he would enjoy the material for his age more or less. But I do think that either R2R or CTC would work well for him. I just picked CTC based on your thoughts about him learning about A...

Re: Placement Chart Help

I thought I should clarify I don't really think of him as any particular grade. I try to focus on my children's ages and abilities, rather than grade. It sounds like some of you do the same with your children.

Re: Placement Chart Help

- but what are your thoughts about all of this? In Christ, Julie Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and help me through the placement chart. I appreciate it! :D It sounds like everyone agreed that Beyond makes sense for my dd7 and Preparing makes sense for my ds9. My dd7 completed MFW1 ...

Placement Chart Help

I would like to place my 11, 9 1/4, and 7 1/2 year olds in HOD. They did MFW ECC this past school year. The HOD placement chart has a very different scope and sequence than MFW so I am finding it difficult understanding it enough to discern placement. Could you please tell me where you think my chil...

Re: Would love some placement help

Thank you so much ladies for all of your wonderful warm encouragement! :D It meant a lot to me. I have been reading other threads as well, and this board is helping me immensely. I like the idea of staggering a HOD start by starting with Bigger then CTC and then Beyond. It makes sense to me given wh...

Re: Would love some placement help

I'm going to suggest you look at the placement chart and place them according to the chart. Seriously that is really the best place. If they are ahead in Math or Reading, it doesn't matter. Where do each of them fall on the chart? I have tried children in guides above or below their abilities and i...

Would love some placement help

Hi ladies, I would love some placement help for HOD. I have tried it in the past, and loved it; but we never made it very far due to a mistake I made. The mistake of starting 3 different HOD guides at once for my 3 children who are 21 months apart in age. I think the first time we tried Bigger, LHFH...

Re: Use with gifted? 3rd and 4th grade daughters

I am using Bigger with a gifted 3rd grader, 9years old. He tested numerous grade levels ahead in math, reading, and reading comprehension. He reads around a high school level or beyond. The extensions and DITHR help with the advanced reading student. Working at whatever level of Singapore your dd's ...

Re: If your student is in Preparing or CTC....

Hi Katrina and Erin! :D It is so nice to hear both of your 'voices' on this thread and see you both at HOD! My oldest is a year behind your oldest Katrina. He is doing Singapore 3A/3B and R&S 3 with Bigger. So when he reaches Preparing he will be 10 and doing R&S 4 and Singapore 4A / 4B for 4th grad...

Re: Bigger Hearts hands on math

As I am preparing to return to HoD full time after the holiday break I am strongly considering using SM 2A and 2B with my Bigger Hearts guy. He is an older 2nd grader, turning 9 in late May. Currently, he is using Christian Light Math and halfway thru Grade 2. I want him to grasp a bit more of the ...
