Re: I Can't Decide! Help!

I agree with the previous poster. Doing geography 2 days a week would be about the limit, if you wanted to stretch it out over a year. I speak from experience (as the student) when I say this. Especially if your son doesn't really want to do this. Two days should be enough to hold his attention, whi...

Re: Weekly Review: November 5-9, 2012

We got a good start in unit 11 of Bigger Hearts. We made up a few of the Franklin projects - my ds thought they were ok. What he enjoyed the most was all the drawing. This week in R&S we did everything orally since he is behind in 'writing'. Then that gave him a few lines each day to 'make up' previ...

Re: How young is too young for Emerging Readers?

If they are 'school age' , and ready for it I don't think you would need to wait. Although I would take it slow - gradually getting them used to it. If she's ready for it- she's ready for it! :D If you are concerned about her starting DITHR too soon, because of starting the ER's early you could also...

Re: I need help deciding: Weaver or HOD

If he can read and write well you could always get Beyond for him, and start if off at half-speed, later moving to full speed. That way 1) you could see if it truly works, 2) It would last a bit longer than a year, 3) It would be easily available for your little one later on. If it didn't work you c...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...

As I read the posts I hope I have not been misunderstood in my previous post. I love the daily boxes in the guides! I also was looking more for the weekly overview to be something for teacher alone or mom/student together. I always liked looking ahead at the beginning of the week, and seeing what I ...

Re: Long division question

Thanks for asking this, brokenopen.
It came just when my friend asked for some help, since she doesn't have online access.
My friend's child is having problems at the same place. It was good to read some of the suggestions and pass them along to her.
Looking forward to seeing more.

What surprised me personally was the Edward Eggleston history books in Bigger Hearts.
What surprised us both was how well my 8yo took to Science.

Re: Midpoint Meeting Time Fun

I don't have an independent worker yet, but when I read this post, and saw the first picture . . . I just had to make a hot drink and dress it up for the afternoon school hour I have with my oldest! He really enjoyed it and I think it made the work go down easier for the first 20 minutes or so of sc...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...

Carrie, Just as food for thought, how would the idea of a brief weekly overview in front with the daily pages (w/ boxes :) ) work? We didn't have HOD when my mom was teaching us - but our work was on a weekly 'grid' that I liked looking at at the beginning, and end, of the week. But, I much preferre...
