Re: Is this a good plan? Beyond vs. Bigger

My 9 year old has reached Unit 16 of Bigger. She has struggled with writing in the past, however Bigger has just enough writing to improve her skills without overwhelming her. I would definitely suggest Bigger.

Re: 4-Day schedule for Bigger

We do a 4 day work week with Bigger. Each day we choose 1- 2 different boxes to double up on throughout the week until we have completed the full unit. This is the schedule that works for us without overwhelming my daughter by doubling everything all in a single day.

Hope this helps.

Re: Tennessee HOD families

So glad to hear that there are homeschool groups there. We love the one we are part of now and hate to leave them, but at least if we do I now know there are some near the new area.

Re: Tennessee HOD families

Thank you for your help. We are still determining if the move is more beneficial for our family rather than staying put. If we do make it to Tennessee we will be in the Pigeon Forge area.

Tennessee HOD families

Hi, My family and I may be relocating to Tennessee and I was wondering how do children there fair on the required standardized tests? Did you have to supplement or use a practice tool to prepare them. In Florida it is not required so my daughter has never taken a single standardized test. Thank you

Re: uncombining update and new baby advice needed

I agree with the previous suggestion. I saved any school assignments such as Math or Science Experiments for naptime to allow that uninterrupted one on one time. Good luck to you and your kiddos!!!

Re: Year round schooling compatible with hod?

We have done year around schooling since we started using HOD. We LOVE it!!! :D We usually take a week at Thanksgiving and Christmas, one in the spring, two in May and one during our church's VBS. We also allow 2-3 weeks of flexibility for spontaneous family trips or for sick days( We had the flu co...

Re: HOD? If so, what??

HOD for that age level does not have foreign language. So, if you wish to teach Latin that will have to be added into your day through another curriculum.

Re: OT: "Fluff" reading

I allow fluff reading, but only from books that have an underlying moral trait they are teaching. My daughter is reading the Sweet Valley Kids series atm. I grew up reading these books and they are written on a 1st through 3rd grade level. I do not believe all "fluff" books are created equal. Howeve...
