How does HOD present/teach philosophy

I am trying to pick what I will use for my 9th grader this fall. He used the Bigger and Beyond guides and I have since pieced my own books together for him. I'm ready to go back to a planned curriculum. All of HOD's goals line up with mine. In looking at Cathy Duffy's Top 100 book there are some fas...

Re: To combine or not to combine...that is the question

We have dc ages 10, 6, and 2, and we do not combine for anything at this time. This year, I am doing CTC, Beyond, and LHTH. It is a perfect fit for our family. I think combining works well in many situations for many reasons, but for us it works well not to combine. Our dc are all between 3 and 4 y...

Re: Encouragement for those with struggling or hesistant rea

Another thanks to the op! I am in this boat with one of my dc. My ds is 10 and we tried every phonics program known to the hs world! Only a few weeks ago we found a program that clicks and he is finally blending:) It is a struggle and still breaks my heart as I wonder if he will have to go through l...

Re: Many kids to teach = Many guides??? Please help!

Wow - the ladies have really had some great responses here! :D I love how willing the ladies on this board are to give of their time, advice, and encouragement. Having read through all of these good thoughts, and your placement details, I think LHFHG, Beyond, and PHFHG with extensions (with LHTH as...

Re: Many kids to teach = Many guides??? Please help!

Placement is sooo important. If you would share where each of your children places on the placement chart that would really help everyone give the best advice. I want to encourage you that multiple guides is possible, I run 4 and am done teaching by Noon. (We start at 8am) Looking forward to readin...

Many kids to teach = Many guides??? Please help!

I have 6 kids ages 1, 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12. We have always homeschooled. After years of piecing together and combing curriculum (SL, HOD, TOG, etC. etc. ETC!!!!), I am fully convicted I need to stop over-supplimenting and stick with only HOD. Although I love the HOD guides, selections, etc. I've been ...

Re: Why did I let this sit on my shelf for so long!

I too have had DITHOR on the shelf for months and have not used.

I bought some Progeny Press lit guides for this summer, but which I had gotten out my DITHOR and saved $$$. :(

Adding Doorposts' Plants Grown Up to Preparing?

For those of you that use it, how can we fit Doorposts Plants Grown Up into our HOD plans? Is this a good idea or not? I have 4 boys school age. I don't want to do too much Bible LOL- -if there is a such thing. It looks great, but with church, HOD's great bible studies, I'm not sure how to do it bes...
