Re: Help with Testing in Foerster Algebra 1

I would pull the test after the time limit and grade it. Then I would give him an opportunity to take the test the next day with only awarding 1/2 points for the remaining problems. I would count the grades. This is high school and credits. He wouldn't get the 3 hour window and he won't in college. ...

Re: Help with Testing in Foerster Algebra 1

That is a bad habit to get into with math as in college you do not get 3 hours on a test. My oldest went back to high school and this was a horrible issue for her. She had gotten so used to working on her own timetable that she failed a few math tests trying to be perfect in the test. She would spen...

Re: MtMM - 9th Grade High School Credit?

These are the credits that we would use in our state. We do not need economics at all and only have to cover US History from 1877 to present day for 1 US History Credit. It will all depend on your state how much you have to do to get the credits you will need. Ours assumes that US History to the Civ...

Re: frustrations with Spanish

If you have access to a native speaker, I would have her start trying to talk with them conversationally if they will. Whether they speak English or not doesn't matter. To be fluent in a language, you have to truly use it in day to day life. I would just get her talking with the native speakers and ...

Re: CTC or RTR?

I don't know. I would probably go with RTR b/c he is going to be ready for R&S English 5, has writing experience with the co-op, has almost finished Land Animals which is used in CTC, and reads on a 7th grade level. CTC is really good but I did it one time with a child who was similar to yours--at t...

Re: Help with high school transfer

I edited my post b/c I lost my train of thought on the other option I was thinking might work. I looked up your credits needed. http://www.bigbayschool.com/Parents-Students/Images/hs-grid_178615_7.jpg It seems your Geography is included in your US History and World History. You could combine in AM1/...

Re: Help with high school transfer

Thank you so much for your responses. I am just home from the hospital with a sick baby, and it feels so good to sit and be calm. I am just now reading these and my head is a little foggy. I will look at the placement chart momentarily, but in the meantime here's where we are: This past year at PS:...

Re: Rev2Rev versus MTMM for 7th grade / age 13 boy

I wouldn't recommend jumping into MTMM for 7th grade unless your son has gone through all the previous guides and just wound up ahead at that point, but you say 7th grade 13 year old who is doing Pre-Algebra and finishing R&S 5 already. I also have both boys and girls and my girls came first. :) So ...

Re: Singapore 2A for 3rd grader

I have a 9 yr old who is working in level 3. And it actually gives us a gap year between Singapore 6a/6b and Algebra 1. So I think you are on track. 2a/2b-3rd grade 3a/3b-4th grade 4a/4b-5th grade 5a/5b-6th grade 6a/6a-7th grade Still gives a year for pre-algebra in 8th or some wiggle room if things...

Re: Help with high school transfer

What were her other classes besides history? What did she take for credit her freshman year at public school? How does English work there? Is it English 1-4 or does it separate by Literature and English for credit? Did she take Physical Science or Bio this year? Algebra or Geometry? What core 4 clas...

Re: Jayden was accepted into the charter school

You don't have to have them test her if you want to go in with a placement test. I didn't grade everything either, but I knew what grade she was turning in so B work got a B...C work got a C. I used homeschool helper on my Nook and just created a course title and put 1 grade in which was the grade I...

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h

Yes, it does depend on where you are at...here there is new legislation going in that says the college will only get reimbursed the discount for dual enrollment for public school students. Up until this year, homeschoolers got the discount as well. There is new legislation stipulating reimbursement ...

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h

I agree with the other posters. The times are changing with college prep at the high school level as well. I have 2 students in school now and within the last few years with them starting high school I noticed that schools are not the same as when I went. They are not reliant on textbooks. They are ...

I agree with Lynn. Typing is key. My ds 13 has dysgraphia and dyslexia. I didn't realize that about google docs and we will have to explore it as well. ;) I also second karate. It really helps. I also wanted to say if your child is musically inclined or would enjoy learning music that piano and read...

Re: Jayden was accepted into the charter school

I have returned 2 students to school. It was in 9th grade. We too had to submit report cards and test scores. We didn't do transcripts b/c high school is it's own entity. However, for the report card I left the 83 C in Algebra that was taken in 8th grade. It actually helped the guidance counselor to...
