Re: RtR Gallery in Notebook

Nevermind, I finally found it wedged somewhere in the MIDDLE of the notebook.
At least I found it.

RtR Gallery in Notebook

Am I just being dense?
The instructions ask my child to turn to the "gallery" in the back of the notebook and look at the "art gallery". There IS nothing after Unit 35. Am I reading this wrong? Has it been moved?

Re: PGFHG -Should I choose the Deluxe or Extension package?

Both! If not she will miss... DRAWING! Who would want to miss that? (Even if it's not her thing, learning to follow step by step directions is a useful skill.) VISUALS! I did Preparing with Extensions with my advanced 6th grader this year. Many of the short books in the Independent History portion c...

MTMM How many weeks of chemistry?

I'm curious to know if chemistry stops at a certain point in MTMM and Genetics/Evolution starts? In other words, how many weeks are spent on each?

Re: Torn on if we should do Preparing Extensions??

Can you just do four extension books this year? As in...pick four, divide their readings up into even smaller doses (I just draw a line right in the book to indicate where a reading stops and where the next day should begin), and use only those? He'd get the "stretch" of attempting a good story, but...

Re: How do you handle poor narrations?

My sixth grader (who is a prolific writer and scores advanced on state testing in all areas, including language arts) did Preparing with Extensions this year. It was plenty "meaty" enough. There were the easier picture books or chapter books in the Independent History box, but they complimented the ...

We didn't finish school yesterday.

Excerpt of a conversation with my 11 year old daughter this morning, our 5th day with Preparing and 5th day with HOD: DD: We're gonna have a LOT of work to do today, since we didn't finish school yesterday! Me: What are you talking about? We finished school yesterday! DD: How could we? We only worke...

Re: What would I need for 9 weeks of rev to rev

I don't know the answer to the Rev to Rev question, but I want to agree that, while I'm willing to wait for God's timing and finances, I wish He'd be a little more up front about what His plan is. Patience is a virtue I'm still developing... Hopefully this comment will bump you back to the top and l...

No more 10 y/o in Preparing as of tomorrow...

Because I will have an 11 year old. Goodness, you didn't think I was stopping HOD, did ya? Yep. It was 11 years ago, on August 17th, that I had my last uninterrupted thought. I love that little chatterbox. And I love that, in our fourth year of homeschooling, we FINALLY found the program that allows...

Re: Science Notebooking

We've just got a 1 and 1/2 inch binder with the following five tabs: History Narrations (from Reading about History AND the Extensions), History Projects (for pictures mounted on cardstock, three hole punched), Independent History Study, Science Explorations, and Vocabulary. In the front of this bin...

Re: I feel like a homeschool snob

Once, while teaching public school, I had to wrestle with the question of whether to tell the teacher next door that "Welcome to forth grade!" was incorrect. It's certainly not just homeschoolers having trouble spelling (or mistyping). I'm particularly peeved by "peak" and "peek". Unless it's for pu...

Thank you. I had just been looking in the HOD catalog, and thought Carry On, Mr. Bowditch (a reading selection) might have been similar. Thanks for your reply.

PHFHG/Pedro's Journal/Carry On, Mr. Bowditch

My 6th grader is doing Preparing with Extensions this year. Last year we were in a different program, and we used Pedro's Journal as a read aloud. She remembers it...I asked today and she did a good oral retelling. I was thinking of replacing Pedro's Journal in that section with Carry On, Mr. Bowdit...
