Re: Concerned that dd isn't ready for Preparing
You could do it half pace and concentrate on getting her reading skills up to level before going full speed. You may be surprised at what she can do.

Re: Help! Jump to Bigger or finish Beyond?
We did Beyond for 2nd grade, as to delay all the handwriting and drawing required in Bigger. The spines are also "harder" in that the language is older. I'm glad we waited, even though my dd was advanced in some other areas, like reading. It fit her well in 3rd/4th grade (we did it over 2 years). I ...

Re: More English woes
Ah, well, we have only used through R&S 3, so it is good to have a heads up on the time it is taking for you. We will be doing it full-speed with Preparing.

Re: Switching from Sonlight
I can answer part of your question. We used yet another program for K4 (Ann Ward's Learning at Home), then SL 4/5 for K and SL K for 1st before switching permanently to HOD at the Beyond level. One exception is we used LA/Readers 1 for K and LA/Readers 2 for 1st. When we started Beyond, my dd was pa...

Re: CTC Science Question
It is on the HOD site, now. Apologia changed their website. This is the part you need:

Re: CTC Science Question
You do HOD assigned labs, not necessarily the ones in the book. As usual, Carrie makes it easy on us. You generally use just stuff already in most homes.

Re: Why Storytime and DITHOR?
I found having storytime matching the genres in DITHOR helped in demonstrating the concepts introduced. Having only one child, it enabled us to do some of the group activities together. Although each has a different broad intent, they meet in the middle with the discussions and genres. Beyond and Bi...

Re: Bridging the Storytime Gap Between Guides
I would try to get yourself back on track so you are doing both left and right sides together. Slow down the right side until the left side is caught up. There is no hurry, and Little Hearts makes a wonderful 1st grade program (and do we really care about grade levels?). You could do boxes from two ...

Re: Question about a specific book
It isn't, but that doesn't mean you couldn't use it as a Beyond or Bigger story-time nonfiction book or even for your child to read as a nonfiction selection in DITHOR. I love that these areas are flexible.

Re: Please recommend a good science library set
I haven't used them, but I have heard great things about Answers in Genesis for science books. They have an explorers series meant for 10 and up that has a book per subject area (physics, chemistry, math, etc). Are those the Tiner books? We have a few of those, and they are wonderful. :D HOD uses s...

Re: Using only the history portion & possible science
Well there is much more than just history and science in HOD. I think you will appreciate it. Don't try to do it without the TM, as it ties everything together so well. You can definitely substitute in CLE for math--we do that. You can try using CLE LA. I use something else for spelling and handwrit...

Please recommend a good science library set
I am looking for a set of science books to use for research, fun, and supplementation for the 9-12yo range. Does anyone here have something they would recommend? It would be wonderful if it were from a Christian publisher, but I have not been able to find one. I want something that has books for the...

Re: Adding to the President Study, Julie or Carrie...
How about Notgrass Company's Uncle Sam and You? It says grades 5-8, though. They also have Exploring Government, which is 1/2 credit and may be enough to round out the Presidents' Study.

Re: DITHOR help
The first two years we used it, we used it along with Beyond and Bigger, which has genre based story-time and initiates discussion about many of the same elements. So, I could easily pull out an example from the read-aloud story-time book, even if I hadn't a clue about her book. I think the importan...
