Re: Week of November 28-December 2

We have completed Unit 8 of preparing this week. We have learned about the 12 tribes of Israel. The kids sketched the map of the tribes and created a puzzle from the cut-out pieces. We finiahed reading Tirzah, a book that we all enjoyed as we followed the Israelites in the desert. They learned about...

Re: Frustrated with length of school day...help! :)

We were going half pace as it seemed like a lot of stuff to get done in one day!! But I changed something, the way I approached HOD. I now write down in an exercise book what they need to accomplish each day. They can see what needs to be done and this seems to motivate them to finish. They are now ...

This week the kids enjoyed creating a crook and making Egyptian bread. It was a hot week for us here in Australia. But we accomplished lots.

Re: Week In Review Oct 24-28

We have finished unit 5 in preparing. We have focused on 'A Good Play' by Robert Louis Stevenson. The kids are really enjoying poetry. They are very enthusiastic when it is their turn to write poetry. And this week they responded to the poem in a playful and imaginative way creating their own house ...

Re: Please tell me it's ok to go 1/2 pace with Preparing

i have just settled on going 1/2 pace with preparing as I figure that the ages that can be incorporated into preparing allow for it. I have a 10 and 8 year old doing it. We do 1 week history and then one week science and poetry. I have found doing it this way has slowed us down, we don't focus on th...

Re: Lapbooking and HOD

We are doing preparing and have decided to go half pace so that we can pace ourselves and enjoy the activities rather than worrying about time. So this is our plan with lapbooking. We will spend a week just doing our left hand side of the day plan, just focusing on history. We still do math, english...

Re: Schooling 3 Days a Week?

I have taught 3 days a week. And the kids did not suffer. In fact they i worried that they weren't learning, but you know what they were and were doing great!! I think if you are burning out after 3 days, then stop, the kids are only young and I think relax and enjoy them. Do school and then let the...

Re: What to do when you don't finish???

I have struggled with this same thing this term. We had been used to doing the 3 R's and then a history/science/nature or art study during the day. We would do 3 hours tops!! And lots of this was hands on. But I do love HOD. I just at this stage cannot do the whole planned day in a day! My kids are ...
