Re: How do you keep your guides in one piece? So

I unbound my guide and put all the pages in page protectors. I love it because they are protected, and I use a dry erase marker to check off what we have done and because my dd does somethings on her own I mark those for her. At the end of the unit I go back through and erase our marks. I plan on do...

Re: Week In Review Sept.05,2011 to Sept.09,2011

Had a really good week in Bigger unit 3, dd really liked science this week and we are all enjoying the storytime. Taking next week off to take a little trip, the flexability of homeschool is awesome!

Re: Wondering (and a little frustrated) if my second grader

My dd (just turned 9) did not like reading and was really struggling. This past spring I did a reward poster and for every easy reader (we checked out lots of books from the library) she read she got to fill in a square, there were 12 on a page, when all the squares were filled we did something spec...

We have finished Unit 3 and so far so good. We have taken a break to enjoy our lovely Oregon weather but will start back up after Labor Day.

Re: BLHFG 4 days a wk

I only have 4 days in a week to school my children because I work a part time job, I tried to do Bigger each day as written and then pick up where I left off the next week but I did not like it. I like to start a unit and finish a unit in the same week, it's just my preference. It was pretty easy fo...

Re: help needed

Just a note of encouragement- when my daughter was between 11 and 12 she completly quit applying herself to her school work and no matter what we tried she was not changing. It was like she went through a "phase" and it didn't matter what we did she had to come out of it herself. Even going through ...

Finished our first unit of Bigger

I have said to myself again and again this week, I wished I would have found HOD last fall! While looking for curric. for next year I stumbled across a review on HOD and checked it out and was sold right away. We decided not to wait until fall to get started as my dd needs to keep going to "catch up...

Re: Opinions on The Story of US books

I agree with mamas4bugs. I am reading them myself, my library has 2 of the 10, they are interesting and unbiased. They are a light read and may not go in depth enough for a 17-18 year old.

Re: Putting guide in a binder

Well I took the plunge and used an exacto knife and a ruler and cut the pages out and put them in a heavy duty, 2 inch, 3 ring binder. I just like things neat and unwrinkled and I think this will be the best way to "protect" it. I put all the pages in page protectors because paper 3 hole punched can...

Re: Just to encourage all of you...

This is all very encouraging for me. We have been homeschooling for a year now, dd in 8th and dd in 2nd. We have not been using HOD and my girls were tested a few weeks ago. The 8th grader did fantastic scoring 98% and 12+ grade level. Learning new things has always come very easy for her and she ha...

Putting guide in a binder

Just got my box! This is my first year using HOD and I am very excited! My question is, have any of you taken your guides apart and put them into a three ring binder? Being a newbe I am unsure of how well the binding of the book holds up with lots of flipping back and forth to the appendix. Any thou...

Re: Bigger Hearts

My younger one will be 9 in mid September and will be in 3rd grade. I am really hoping to not add weeks to our school year any ideas how to fit 5 days into 4? Is it possible?

Bigger Hearts

This is my first year homeschooling, an 8th grader and a 2nd grader, I am trying to make decisions for next year and am thinking of trying HOD for the first time with my younger one using bigger hearts. I see that it is geared for a 5 day school week but I also work part time and we have a four day ...
