Re: Independence in upper guides doesn't equal less interact

I really needed to hear this. Thank you!

We are loving HOD, but I start to doubt myself and my decision.
That is when I start living in fear instead of Christ's victory.

Blessings,
Chelli

Re: Doing different guides, and sharing in the fun

Thanks for the great post, Julie! I've discovered since starting two guides this year that my two dd's actually do lots of things from each other's guides. Dd8 joins in with the Dramatic play in LHTH, and dd4 loves to join in the science experiments from Bigger. It's been quite enjoyable to watch th...

Re: Storytime issues...

Look on the Heart of Dakota website in the Book Shop link. On the right side will be list of books sets based on which guide they are in or reading level they are at if you are doing DITHOR. The Beyond guide sets are listed there for boy, girl, or classic. That should help you find some good suggest...

Re: library usage?

I am using our library for both the readers and storytime books this next year. Some of the readers that were suggested with DITHOR we didn't have, so I substituted for them. Some of the books we needed I already owned. But most of mine I am getting from the library. I have library cards to two diff...

Re: Handwriting for a pre-K/K-er?

Here's my .02 worth. If she's not wanting to write, don't make her (she probably knows that she is not ready). Let her do lots of pre-writing activities. (Link removed by moderator per board rules). Also, let her write her letters/numbers in salt sprinkled in a cookie sheet, put shaving cream in a z...

Re: HOD and Co-op Question

We are in a co-op this year where the history and science are introduced using a certain curriculum each week, then you work on it at home until the next week when you get new topics. I started out the year trying to do our own thing at home and just using the co-op as enrichment, but I found out pr...

Re: did I bite off more than I can chew? Uncombining...

I also can't comment on what you should do about the combining/uncombining, but here is how I finally have a hold of my dd7's ability to waste time. I purchased a kitchen timer. We made a deal to do school together for 30 minutes, then take a 30 minute break. During the 30 minutes that we are doing ...

Re: Good chapter books for girls?

My dd is almost the exact age of yours (about two months younger) and is reading the exact same books :) We have recently discovered Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew. They are written by the author of the original Nancy Drew series, Carolyn Keene. Nancy Drew is only eight years old and solves mysteries....

Re: Living in the Past or Present?

Julie, Your post brought tears to my eyes! THAT is what I want for my family and THAT is why we are using HOD this fall. I tell people all the time when they ask why I homeschool, "Because my children could become doctors, lawyers, or astrophysicists, but if they don't love the Lord, then I will hav...

Re: Reading Made Easy?

I just finished RME with my dd earlier this year. Here are my opinions: I started RME with my daughter when she was 5 (officially kindergarten). I tried starting earlier with her (prek), but she was not ready to blend yet (very frustrating for me and her), so we shelved it until K. The CD didn't exi...

The HOD Prodigal returns

I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself since I will probably be picking everyone's brains on here a LOT!! :D For the past two years of homeschooling my oldest dd, I have used a mixture of lots of differnt curriculums and made my own out of it. When I started planning for this fall, I kn...
