Cannot thank you all enough
I really just cannot think you all enough for the amazing advice and encouragement that you have all shared on the separating the kiddos issue. Our ds, soon to be 7, is such a special kiddo who has survived overwhelming odds (severe heart defects in infancy) and I often forget that he just needs a l...

Re: Struggling with separating the kids
I don't feel confident enough to give advice on exactly which guides you should use. I'd rather leave that to Carrie and Julie. However, I did want to share that it's been my experience with HOD that it is much easier to boost up an easier guide than it is to take a harder guide down a notch. I als...

Re: Struggling with separating the kids
So, these younger years are crucial, and our teaching needs to be focused, consistent, and complete. Random teaching, hit and miss work on skills, accepting incomplete work, letting poor work habits slide - there is no room for these things in these years - because habits are forming ALL of the tim...

Re: Struggling with separating the kids
I just wanted to say that my high school daughter is doing CtC this year, but 5 days a week to speed it up a little, and she LOVES it. It is so interesting to her and a nice change from what we were doing. She loves having it all spelled out for her what to do each day. We added extensions, plus so...

Re: Struggling with separating the kids
This is one of the most helpful boards I have ever been on!! Amazing thoughts ladies!! Although dd, going into 5th, would probably be capable of doing the majority of the work in Preparing, I know that she would really enjoy Bigger w/extensions. She is a very timid child, struggles with self-confide...

Re: Struggling with separating the kids
Thank you so much for all of the help ladies. It truly is appreciated. I know that when we have combined things in the past, I have had to fill so many gaps and pull so many other things together to get it all to work, it ends up being tons of work. I think I need to go with my first instinct and se...

Struggling with separating the kids
This fall will be our first year with HOD and it is so what we have been looking for. I asked a question a few days ago about what level would be best for my soon to be 7 yr. old and while I completely know that he should be in Beyond while our dd 10 is in Bigger I am still having such a hard time w...

Re: Trying to decide
Definitely not speaking out of turn. This is exactly what I needed to hear. I have poured over the samples and Beyond would fit him SO much better. When our oldest (15 1/2) was this age, I had a habit of expecting way more from him than he was capable of (same reading/writing issues our almost 7 yr....

Re: Singapore Math
Very cool. We plan on doing Bigger with our dd so I could use the hands on out of Bigger for ds doing Beyond. That would work well!!

Singapore Math
I had decided on Abeka math for my ds that "gets" math. Singapore looks really great though. I have a few used copies of other years in our store and I really like how new concepts are taught. Ds would be in level 2. Would the textbooks be necesarry or just the workbook? We would be using Beyond for...

Trying to decide
We are new to HOD and after reading so many great reviews, spending lots of time pouring over the website and forums, we have decided HOD is exactly what we are looking for. I have looked at the placement chart many times but I am still just not sure if I should keep our middle two together. I thoug...
