Re: Dictation level placement
I did the opposite, LOL. :) I started my dd on an easy level. When it was too easy for her, I moved up half a level. I kept doing that until I felt the pieces were challenging for my dd but not frustrating. If she had to repeat a dictation passage more than a couple times, and was getting upset abou...

Re: Hi!
I'll let others post on levels since they have more experience than I do. I just wanted to comment that I understand the desire you have to learn with your children about the Christian science perspective. I wanted the Christian perspective on science and history. HOD is amazing at that! :) Every da...

Re: New to Homeschooling considering HOD for our first year
Coming from ps to a CM approach was what I did. My advice, take it slow!!! Things will seem very different both for you and your dd. Things like copywork, narration, and dictation are skills that take time to build. For me, they were so different that I literally stopped, and then restarted... one t...

Re: Caddie Woodlawn - Girl Interest reading
Ok, this may sound silly. I haven't read Caddie Woodlawn's Family yet, but I am going to encourage you to read and/or have your daughter read the original Caddie that is listed in CTC anyway. It is such an amazing book! :) Just my opinion, but it was a favorite of mine as a girl! I waited impa...

Praying for you and all in your area. I've seen on the news how much you have been hit down there. God Bless You and bring you peace.

Re: What do to...confession and novel!
Our daughters are only a few months apart in age and I'll be doing CtC next year too. I too jumped from one curriculum to another trying to find something that worked for my daughter. In a couple areas it did put her behind. :( I wanted to find something that worked for her learning "stye" too, and ...

Re: HoD Bloggers
I like reading other people's blogs too that use HOD, even if I am not currently using that level. It shows me all that is coming for my little one. It was someone else's blog that first introduced me to HOD. I saw the hands-on projects and the books and just had to check out the curriculum!

Re: Lightbulb moment!
It's a great plan! :) I might consider that for my 4 yr old dd. I've been thinking ahead and realized the same thing. Guess I hadn't gotten to the writing it out on paper part yet. One thing to consider is that there may come a time when you'll have to slow down or make up time. An illness, a strugg...

Re: Preparing
The first few weeks of Preparing are a wonderful mix of creation using the book Life In The Great Ice Age. :) Grandpa's Box is used right from the beginning and is mixed in throughout the year when the stories it tells match the time period. By the way, Grandpa's Box is a favorite of ours! :D CHOW c...

Re: Placement Help and HOD with LD
I understand the excitement and nervousness you have! I can't help with placement because I haven't used the younger guides yet, but I have dealt with learning disabilities. I brought my dd home from ps in the beginning of 3rd grade. She was getting decent grades, but I had spent many years watching...

Oh, Wow, How Beautiful! I woke up this morning with a sick one, and that just lifted me up and encouraged me so much. Thanks, Julie, for sharing that! Don't worry, the tears are happy ones. LOL.

Re: OT Snacking...
I applaud you for offering healthy snacks. :) In our home we have snack times. I used to have a free for all, but it got expensive and I always felt like our home was a buffet at a restaurant. Except for if my oldest needs a snack for low blood sugar (type 1 diabetic), I am pretty strict. I plan our...

That is awesome! We recently read that book. Guess it just goes to show that you never know what kids are going to pick up and be interested in.
