Re: Why is school taking so long every day?

Amy, Congratulations on your progress! I have been homeschooling for a looooooooooong time, and I still describe myself as feeling "out of breath" for the first couple of weeks. But I've also homeschooled long enough to know that if we stick with the schedule, it falls into a routine after a couple ...

Re: Still trying to shore up the grammar mechanics...

(Links removed by moderator per board rules.) I wonder if part of the problem might also be that the tests (at least the ones I am used to) ask you to find the error and that's not the style they are used to. I don't like teaching mechanics & punctuation that way, but maybe just for a short time rig...

Re: Still trying to shore up the grammar mechanics...

I'd hate for you to add something extra to your day, but something like Daily Grams could work. For parts of speech we have thrown in Mad Libs here and there (usually as we drive somewhere). However, I was wondering if you are regularly doing dictation? If so, they should be focusing on capitalizati...

I'm not in your state, but this might be helpful in working out hours per subject:

Re: Flapbook photo from CtC Unit 1 Day 1

You might want to look at the photobooks for CTC--I'm not sure if this particular item is in them but it is worth a look.

You can also find samples on the Week in Review forum but you'd have to find someone's first CTC week. :-)

Re: CTC Research? What did you use?

We already owned a Holman Bible Dictionary and used it quite a bit, but also used the World Book encyclopedia available online through our library as well as wikipedia.

We had a GREAT year and hope you do too!

Re: Before HOD, Weekly Lesson Plans, but now what?

I think I kind of compromised. What I did with CTC was to create a general master checklist for Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Day 4 with the list each day in the order I planned to do each assignment. Then at the top of each column on my assignment sheet (a table created on Microsoft Word) I put the week...

Re: Please talk to me about this

MFW Ancients is tough--lots and lots of reading. I wouldn't say the amount of reading itself is unreasonable for 9th grade but coupled with the time period and the material/topics being read, it is very challenging. So unless your dd is a strong reader and writer, I would highly recommend CTC, beefi...
