Re: Free Reading
I just had another thought what about those early reader collection type books. We have one with three Frog and Toads in one. Maybe that would make it feel like a longer book to her. Also could she read the Burgess books on her own? There are a bunch more that aren't scheduled in LHFHG and they are ...

Re: Have I ruined his reading and math????
No you have not ruined him and yes he can and will catch up. Many children do not even begin math and reading until age 6-7 in other countries and that was the case not long ago in the US as well. Just start where he is at and begin working on it diligently and he will do fine.

New Geo sneak peek?
So I was just checking out the new Geography guide sneak peek, which looks awesome by the way, and I noticed that the little letters in the corner looked strange. You know the ones that stand for Independent, Semi Independent, or Teacher. Is this a typo or are there new symbols for high school?

Re: Free Reading
Just for an example, she just read a level two reader the length of Henry and Mudge books in less than 10 minutes. I just can't be with her at the time she's reading these to help her out. I don't do phonics  Is she reading these in her head or out loud? I'm wondering how well she is actuall...

Re: Free Reading
Hm, I guess I miss understood you. I still think the supplemental titles would work well for this purpose the Step Into Reading and An I can Read Books are really not much shorter than Magic Tree house they are just in a different format. Most of these still have chapters. My dd reads one chapter at...

Re: Free Reading
What about the supplemental titles from the ER list? You could have her read those in order during her free time along with the ER's for school time. I own pretty much all of those along with the ER's and some other books of similar level that are really good. If you need some more ideas I have a li...

Re: Skipping LHTH?
I think it is perfectly fine to skip LHTH if he/she is ready for LHFHG. My oldest two never did LHTH. My oldest was in 2nd when we started HOD and my second was beyond LHTH so we started LHFHG. If she isn't ready for LHFHG than do LHTH or you could do LHTH along with the K options from LHFHG either ...

Re: What order do you like to do the guides?
We do seat work the first half of the day so phonics, emergent readers, DITHR, math, Bible, handwriting, fine motor skills, poetry, spelling/dictation, grammar, independent science and history, hymns, bible songs, copywork, etc.(depending on the kid and guide) We then take a lunch break and do every...

Re: Am I crazy to start now??
No I think it is fine to start anytime you want. You might consider doing like 3 or 4 days a week for the summer so you will have time to do some summer things too.

Re: Multiple guides
I guess I just do it! :) You know how it was when you had one kid and you were overwhelmed and then you had two and you adjusted. It is kinda like that. If I all of a sudden jumped into teaching through 4 guides it would be very overwhelming, just like it would be if you all of a sudden had 4 kids.(...

Re: DITHR - repeat 2/3 student book or move on?
As far as projects you can choose one of the other options listed in the DITHR guide, pick some you didn't do yet, redo them but they will be a bit different with different books, or get another book project book.

Re: DITHR - repeat 2/3 student book or move on?
Yes you can repeat the workbooks that is the intention anyways. My ds used the level 2/3 workbooks for 3rd and 4th grade actually. The first time with some of the level 2 and 3 books and the second with some of the 4/5 books. He reads the books we didn't get to with DITHR during free time and summer...

Re: Is my daughter ready for DITHOR?
Has she gone through the Emergent readers? If not I would start there the schedule is in the back of the Beyond and Bigger guide. You can even add in some of the supplemental titles to give her more practice. If she has done the ER's I would get the level 2 books and just have her read through them ...
