Re: So many great stories, so little time

We are trying to read more than one book from each genre in Beyond. So far we have read both Helen Keller (5 days) and Benjamin West (15 days) and both A Lion to Guard Us (9 days) and King of the Wind (11 days, a pretty steady clip). We read Squanto in the evenings and just finished it. I agree, I d...

You might find this thread helpful:

Also, some people extend LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger by making them 4-day programs instead of 5.

Copywork: Poem title question

Hi,

When copying a poem, should the title be in quotes or underlined? It seems like I was taught to use quotes when referencing a poem title, but I'm not sure what to do when copying it. Is there a difference?

Thanks,
Kathy

Re: Timeline

We have done the bound sticker version of the timeline in another program and are now doing the child-drawn version in Beyond. I prefer the child-drawn version because it makes my dd pause and actually think about what she is doing. It is really easy to peel a sticker and put it in the book without ...

Re: Copywork what should I expect?

My dd7 is doing Beyond copywork as well and we use handwriting paper with the dashed line (it's the Mead journal that has space at the top half of the page for drawing a picture). My dd uses her pinkie to create a "pinkie space" between her words. I have also seen the recommendation of using a penny...

Re: Sneak Peek #10: New Guide Missions to Modern Marvels

One more question for you, Carrie. Is there going to be a study of root words/entymology at some point in HOD? You may have already included that and I'm just not aware of it.

Thanks,
Kathy

We started in January and are using it for the last half of 1st grade and the first half of 2nd grade.

Re: Handwriting schedule?

We started this year with ARFH A and got a little over halfway through it before starting Beyond in January. The copywork in Beyond has really stretched my dd, so we dropped the ARFH A. I think if you used ARFH A for the rest of this year, that would give you a good review of letter formation before...

Writing in Beyond

Hi, We started Beyond last week and I was wondering how people handle the writing. I am using the lined Mead journal for the poetry copywork and my dd7 enjoys illustrating on the same page. I was wondering, though, about the spelling and Storytime copywork. I am having my dd use the 1st grade lined ...

Re: Kids Dictionary

We really like the DK Merriam-Webster Children's Dictionary. It is like an adult dictionary in terms of how many words it has, but has great pictures, easier-to-understand definitions, and a really nice reference section at the back.

Hope this helps!

Bigger Handwriting

Hi, If we use Beyond for 2nd grade and use Bigger's LA box for Cheerful Cursive, R&S, and spelling/dictation, what do we do for handwriting when we get to Bigger in 3rd grade? What do most people do in this case? I know there is some poetry copywork and the dictation. Is there anything else we shoul...
