Re: A Reminder to Always...

Yeah, the Copywork is for those not ready for cursive. What I think was really golden to discover is that Copywork should be limited to 5-10 minutes. That should be bolded and high lighted somewhere. :D I don't think DS takes longer than that but I hadn't thought to look at the clock and I know that...

Re: Question about Beyond

The guide says to limit Copywork to 5-10 minutes of careful work so I would let that be your guide in how much of the poem is assigned each day rather than focusing on getting it completely copied.

Thank-you for your kinds words, ladies. I will pass them on to my son and I know he will great appreciate them - he was working very purposefully on his handwriting last week. :)

Re: Question on Bigger Poetry Copywork

See, this is totally me and why I would have totally missed that: right below where I copied and pasted that from is a heading saying: Handwriting or Copywork, which I didn't notice (followed by more specific details which, btw, mentions that copywork should be limited to 5-10 minutes). Anywa...

Re: Question on Bigger Poetry Copywork

Both of my dc had done copywork in Beyond and it really served to cement their handwriting skills. In Bigger, my understanding was that you were supposed to choose between either learning cursive or copywork using the poem each unit. I choose to have them learn cursive as their handwriting instruct...

Re: Week In Review: July 9-13

I know a few of us were starting the new school year this week and I'd like to hear how it went - please share! I don't have a blog so I'm sharing here. :) DS6 did really well this week. He's been cooperating with the new schedule and accepting the higher workload with very little complaint. It must...

Re: LHFHG or Beyond?

It sounds like she places into LHFHG and if it was me, I'd intend to complete it with her and give plenty of time to strengthen those skills. You can always read more books to her and choose more when you get to Beyond - there are many wonderful books out there to choose from.

Re: Getting geared up for next month!!

MrsKnapp, for what is worth, the science activities and lessons at that level are not remotely time consuming. I wouldn't for a moment concern myself with any either/or thoughts. You can enjoy the full connectedness of LHFHG and still have time to enjoy other reading and activities with your children.

Re: Enough challenge in Beyond?

What areas specifically are you concerned about? My 6yo fit into Bigger on the placement chart for all but age (and he has already learned cursive). I chose Beyond because my child is used to short school days and mostly self educating in his own areas of interest beyond the 3Rs and foreign language...

Re: Intentionally slower, more relaxed schedule pace?

Yes. For the same reasons. I have also moved some of DS's work to quiet/nap time. It means less "break" for me but in the overall scheme of this new way of doing things, I "need" less break. For my own temperament I've had to let go of any independent plans to get things done during the day that I c...

You sound super organized. I was just thinking that I need to read tomorrow's Beyond plans so I'll know what I need. Obviously I'm not super organized. :P
