Re: new guide--pricing, etc.?

If you email them, they can give you some idea as to the pricing of things. I was at a conference and was able to get the information. They probably still need to do some tweaking before they publicize it, but the numbers I got helped me plan a budget for purchasing.

Re: Sneak Peek #8: New World History Guide

I also got to see these wonderful resources at MACHE this weekend. My son has done several guides already and is currently doing the WG guide as a sophomore. When we went to the conference, he wanted to look at other options for World History. Grass is greener syndrome, as he has friends whose schoo...

Re: Who has used No-Nonsense Algebra?

I have used it as a supplement. If you are using it for middle school, it would be great. I didn't use it for my son's only high school math.

Re: What is the best time to call…..

Just leave a message. Mike is very good about calling back fairly quickly. I have called several times and never gotten them when I called, but I have never NOT been called within a couple hours.

Re: High School Chemistry suggestions.

We are using Spectrum Chemistry and haven't had any major issues. I contacted the publishers with a couple questions before ordering and got a good response. My items all came quickly. As for the labs, we haven't had any issues with that either. This is a new edition, so I don't know if maybe some p...

Need book titles for 13yo dd to read for fun

We have been doing HOD for years. My daughter is an avid reader and she has devoured every extension book, nearly all of the DITHOR books HOD sells, etc. But what now? She wants good books and is not interested in the lastest twaddle of vampires, graphic novels or amish romance, which is all that se...

Re: Student Notebooks that accompany Apologia books?

When we did the Land Animals in CTC, I tried to also do the notebooking not knowing what all Carrie had them doing in the guide. We quickly dropped the extra notebooking work. HOD is complete as written.

Re: Punctuation in High School Written Narration

I had my son format a word document for width to fit into the narration box and type his written narrations for MTMM (9th grade) so he could edit for spelling, punctuation, etc. That way he could get his thoughts down first and then could go back and edit for mechanics. That box was worth 10 pts. 5 ...

Re: Carrie - question about lit in Geo guide

Just wanted to pipe in and agree with Carrie about Smarr. We did Smarr the first half of the year last year while doing MTMM to get high school lit credit and it was very time consuming, and my son is a quick reader and comprehender. We switched to something else the 2nd semester to finish his Intro...

Anyone buy 2 teacher guides?

I am considering buying another teacher guide for the Geography course. My son now does school in his room since I am so chatty with the youngest with the read alouds and things and he needs the quiet. It was hard dragging the guide back and forth for us (his room is on a different floor than our sc...

Re: Choosing a Chemistry Course

We are using Spectrum Chemistry. Carrie had mentioned it in a post a couple of years ago so we looked into that. It looks great and the company answered questions I had, so I was happy with that aspect too. It doesn't look math heavy at all.

Re: question about high school levels

Yes, my 9th grader did MTMM with extensions for high school credit, we are doing each new guide as it comes out, so yes he will graduate without completing the final guide (Amer History 1900-Present and Economics) but since MTMM covers that time period and we did extensions, he is getting the high s...

Re: What order do you like to do the guides?

I run three guides as well. I have my older two start with the math, language arts and science things first. Then do Bible, their inventor/signer, etc. study if there is one, so basically they start with the right hand side page. If they need me for a question, I help, but for the most part they are...

Re: How much daily teaching time is required for each level?

TrueGrit has it pretty close for the younger guides. I would say Preparing is probably the most time consuming because of the length of read alouds, and just the big jump in skill level from Bigger. That said, I know I was usually done by noon with the afternoon time sometimes used for any of the cr...
