Re: DITHOR - it was a GREAT day at our Mystery Cafe!

What a blast!! We did a mystery lunch too and had SO much fun! Then my daughter just HAD to write out a mystery menu for Daddy for dinner. She did a great job! Some of our favorite items were: Curly-Q Oink Oink (spiral pasta, cheese and ham) Sunny Bawk Bawk (orange chicken) Crunchy Swimmers (goldfis...

Re: Details of running a 4 day week

Thank you all for your replies! I am happy to hear how much others have enjoyed a 4 day week. I am very excited about it myself! My dd5 is also so very excited to be officially starting LHFHG. She is even a bit possessive about it! Her older sister wanted to sit on my lap to hear one of the readings...

Details of running a 4 day week

Hello all! Well, I have decided to change tracks for my dd5, starting today! We did LHTH for preschool, but I thought we'd save LHFHG for 1st grade, at least the left side of it. We'd been doing the right side and some other stuff for K so far, but it just wasn't working the way I'd hoped. I have an...

Re: Beyond Unit 15 Day 3 Science Help

Thanks! We will try again with higher fat milk. It sounds like it would be really fun if it worked. We had a blast making ice cream the day before :D

Beyond Unit 15 Day 3 Science Help

Hmmmm, something did not work for us with this science project. We followed the directions to use 2/3 cup of milk and 2.5 T vinegar, then we waited. But we never got curds. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Beyond-inspired poetry by my 7yo!

Hello Ladies! I wanted to share my dd's poem with you. We just finished week 4 of Beyond and she really loves the poetry. I love that she tried to write her own poem, in her free time, without any prompting from me! :D I will type it exactly as it looks on her paper, for the full effect (and you'll ...

Re: Question about using Handwriting K with LHTH

I am certainly no expert, but it would seem like the answer would depend on your daughter. How is she doing with letter formation? Does she reverse letters? Does she already pretty much know them but just needs practice? How are her fine motor skills? Doing the letters according to strokes used woul...

Thank you, HOD

I have been meaning to say thank you for quite a while now. Last year was our first year homeschooling: LHTH and LHFHG. We also had a toddler and then a brand new baby bundle born in February. When the baby was 3 weeks old DH got a job offer. When she was 5 weeks old we moved several states over. We...

Dictation - do spaces count?

We just started dictation with DD7. She had to do passage 1 twice because she forgot a period. Too funny...at bedtime she was reciting the passage to me by heart and telling me she thought she could move on. We did it again and she got the period, but this time her spacing was off. "King ring wing" ...

There is a two page sample on the Rainbow Resource website (I hope it's okay to share that). Keep clicking on "more views" and you'll get there.

Re: Behavior expectations during storytime

Thanks for the ideas! I think I will try several things: 1) I'm going to get her some "thinking putty" to play with while listening to give her hands something to do 2) I will continue to let her illustrate the story or act it out when it makes sense to do so 2) I really like the idea of giving her ...

Behavior expectations during storytime

I was wondering what you all expect in terms of behavior during storytime. My dd7 seems to turn into a human ping pong ball as soon as I start reading. Even if she was sitting well beforehand, she suddenly seems to need to move and wiggle and do handstands on the couch, etc! The interesting thing is...

Re: Spelling list 1 after list 2?

Thanks, everyone! It is so great to have this group. I wish I could meet you all in person around the dinner table (although that would have to be one mighty big table! :D ) I am feeling good about doing dictation with DD this coming year. It's also good to know that eventually we will end up in one...

Spelling list 1 after list 2?

Hello all! Do you think it would be "okay" to do spelling list 1 even though we've already successfully done list 2? I didn't realize the full intention of the skills built through the spelling lists when I chose to do list 2 last year without ever having done list 1. Julie, if you read this, I apol...

UPS Stalker ;)

Does anyone else become a UPS tracking stalker while waiting for their box to arrive? Ours is supposed to be here tomorrow and I can't wait! 26 pounds of HOD on it's way! :D
