Re: IDK if I want to do LHFHG or not. Need advice on DD

I agree with the above post (handwriting, math, & phonics). In fact, this is what I decided to do with my DS who just turned five. (I do add in the Bible and devotion from LHTH, as well as a storybook of his choosing.) (I have a baby, toddler, and my eldest two are in Preparing, as well.) I was just...

Getting Ready for Preparing

I used a lovely post by Julie to get ready for Bigger last year. It was immensly helpful, especially with the pictures.

Is there a similar post for Preparing? I tried searching, but am not having any results.

Thanks.

Re: Singapore Math for Sixth Grader

Since he is already in 6th, I would not switch him at this point. Singapore's math principle basics are taught in 1-3 grade, since a huge portion is mental math. I recall a similar discussion a few months back. I even believe Carrie stated to that poster that it would be best to stick with the curre...

Re: Can I use R & S 3 w/ Bigger?

We did. Most of it was done orally. My DS would only do 4-6 sentences written a day. We used it 4 times a week, 1 lesson a day. For the reviews, we would take two days.

Re: Kinda OT: I need help getting baby to sleep to do school!!!!

I cosleep with my babies. I undrstand your frustration. I want to warnn you for the so called baby trainers. Yes, it is normal for a baby to take a bottle/nurse at 10 months. A great book that is co-sleeping friendly, and yet helps address your issues of scheduled napping and insuring baby getting a...

Re: Phonics Question

We used ETC exclusively, but felt it was going too slow with the rules. We switched in 2nd grade to Alphaphonics and she then exploded. She reads at a 7th grade level now. I think your idea of reviewing phonics will bolster your child's reading level. Have fun!

Finish dictation level before next level in next guide?

We are using level 3 dictation in Bigger now. (We are about 3/4 done with it, but won't finish the level before we finish Bigger.)

Do we continue using level 3 dictation in Preparing or do we move onto level 4?

Need Singapore 5a schedule for Preparing

I have my two oldest children using HOD together, however my oldest is a year ahead of the scheduled singapore math. This year they used Bigger and she needed the math schedule for Singapore 4 a and 4 b. So I purchased the Preparing teacher's manual. However, this coming year I don't have the funds ...

Re: Moving to Singapore in 5th grade?

I think you should stick with Saxon at this point. Singapore teaches mental math earlier, and I think at this point it would then be difficult for your son to understand the method (essentially he would have to catch-up with the concept). Also, Singapore does not have a lot of repetition. Hope this ...

Re: Preparing self study extensions?

My DD10 (who just turned 10 and will be starting 5th grade this coming fall) will be using the extension books as scheduled in the Appendix of Preparing. She will also likely read all her brother's Preparing independent history books, as she is an avid reader.
