Re: 7 and 9 year old together?
I've combined my dd7 with my ds8 in Bigger hearts this year. My dd was just 6.5 when we started. We have gone half-pace most of the year so as not to overwhelm my dd. She is smart as a whip but still has the maturity of a 6/7 year old! We will continue to do Bigger Hearts next "year" (we only take a...

Re: Bigger for 2nd grade ... then what to do for middle school?
It is pretty easy to slow down Bigger. We've taken it half pace this whole school year. I do Math and LA daily but the other things I split up and take two weeks to do one Unit. I usually do History, Bible and the "rotating" box one day and then Science, Hymn study and Storytime the next. We also do...

Re: New to Homeschool & HOD...& overwhelmed!!
Hi Jennifer and welcome to the HOD boards! You will find that there are a lot of kind, helpful ladies here that can totally relate to the "new homeschooling" concerns and that will give great advice on the HOD programs. It is a big step to change to a new style of learning but when the Lord calls yo...

Re: ERs and DITHOR
I think you could move her on to DITHOR and maybe take it half speed with her. Read one day then do the DITHOR book the next. Then she can still develop her reading skills and also progress with the skills taught in DITHOR. The Level 2 book pack has some titles that are easier to read than others wh...

Re: Share Your HOD Testimony
It is so amazing how God has called each family to HOD and to homeschooling from such diverse circumstances! You can put our family on the "I have no idea how we found HOD" list! :) I truly cannot tell you how I came across HOD. (it may be that I was pregnant at the time and then of course don't rem...

Re: Still pondering what to do
Hi Jennie, Our boys are the same age! My ds will be 9 in July also. Although I know age alone doesn't make children the same, how you described your boy made me smile in recognition. I was a little concerned about the writing also when we started Bigger this year but we've just taken it half-speed m...

Re: scared!!! maybe I've made a mistake
I can completely relate to your feelings here. I struggled for a time with worry about how my children were doing in comparison to their peers in public school. It happened mostly when we first started homeschooling and after four years they are pretty much gone. What I did was made a list of goals ...

Re: Still trying to work this out....
Hi! I hope I can offer some insight that might help. I was in the exact situation just two years ago. My oldest son was in Little Hearts and his sister was right there in the middle of everything as well. While I focused mainly on my son as we started that guide it became apparent that my dd was kee...

Re: DITHOR half speed
That's exactly what we do - read one day and then do the DITHOR book work the next! Very easy way to get used to using DITHOR. We just started it this year and half-speed has been perfect. I read in one of Julie's posts that she had done that way at one point too. Hope your year starts out well with...

Re: New Year's Eve/Day ideas
An idea I've had but never done (yet) is to spend some time reflecting on the past year and writing down memories in a journal. With everyone thinking back on the past year I am sure many memories (good and bad) will pop up to be written down. Then some time could be spent thinking about things that...

I was wondering how things were going with the baby.
What a precious picture of the girls.
Many blessings to your family as you minister to this child and her mother.
