How fun! Good idea to do that to start the year.
I used to skip the "kick-off" for DITHOR but once I started doing them I realized how much fun they are and how much the children like them and it really does set the stage for the upcoming genre.

Isn't it great to homeschool with such joy and confidence?!
I totally agree with your list too. My two oldest LOVE cheerful cursive. All I remember about learning cursive in elementary school was that it made my hand hurt!
I pray the rest of your school year continues to go well.

Hi Amy, I agree with Kim. Just relax, enjoy your daughter and make each day one of praise to God and wonder in His creation. Little Hands will cover the "academics" nicely and give plenty of time to do other things that your day may bring.

Good Job to both of you!
How you described working with your dd made me think of how God must be happy when we "finally" get a concept!

Re: Doing the guides as written
You are so right about the spelling Kathleen! I didn't understand why spelling was approached the way it was until we got to the Bigger guide so I just glossed over it when we did Beyond. Thankfully my oldest is a naturally good speller but my second child needs lots of help with spelling so now she...

Welcome to HOD! We're going through Little Hearts this year also!
I know you will love the program. There are so many hands on things for the children to do.
Praying that you get off to a great start!

Re: Doing the guides as written
Sure Tracy, I really wish I would have done the Storytime box as written in the guide. We read some of the books but I did not do the activities along with them. Now that I do them I realize that it wouldn't have added much time to our lessons and would have enriched our reading experiences. I rushe...

Whew! I am glad I wasn't the only one who "strayed" at the beginning! I don't know why it makes me feel better that others did it too! LOL

Re: Any HOD on the panhandle of FL?
Hi Angela, We are also a military family who moved to Pensacola in May. We're starting our fifth year with HOD and love it! It is such a joy to homeschool with such a well-written and Christ-centered curriculum. As for placing your daughter, have you checked out the placement chart? That's the best ...

Doing the guides as written
We are about to start our fifth year of educating with HOD and will pick up where we left off with Bigger. As I was reflecting on the past years with the different guides (LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond and Bigger) I sort of wished I could go back and do things a little differently. When we first started I did...

Re: LHFHG Newbie. Any timeline resources?
We made a timeline using index cards. I think the idea for that was right in the guide. (I may be mistaken as it's been a couple of years since we did it). I remember each card having a picture and date and label of a particular person or event and then we hung them with clothespins along a ribbon I...
