Re: HOD Praises
What a wonderful praise! I too observe over and over again the affects of HOD on my "difficult-to-school" child.

Re: Please pray for my family!
I am so sorry for your loss. I will be lifting your family up in prayers. God will give you the strength to go through this trial.

Re: any prep before the day of school
Each of my boys has a small desk organizer that has pencils, scissors, glue and crayons. I have a big bin that has all other supplies like playdough, paint, yarn, construction paper, etc. With this, it is just a matter of grabbing what we need. Our marker board is right where we work. I do look at t...

Re: Preparing for College with HOD
I teach at a community college and I echo the pp sentiment. What I wouldn't give to have a few HOD graduates come through my program .

Re: how to organize home library
A lot depends on what kind of space you have. I have no bookcase space or shelving, so what has really worked slick for us is to put each guide in one of those large, flat bins that you can get at Meijers or Wal-Mart. I don't buy the real deep ones, but not the real shallow ones either (although for...

Re: U.S. History in Preparing and CTC?
We are in CTC right now and the history pack books add so much to the guide I was going to suggest you pick American history stories for your DITHOR or reading books if you don't need a full class. Like Lynn said, Preparing does have some at the end.

Re: DS has tears of joy!
Wonderful! Our children take in more than we know many times. If we surround them with God's word, they will take it to heart.

Does HOD HS writing = "Advanced Composition" ?
Well, we aren't there yet, but I am helping a friend whose daughter will be in the WG guide, 9th grade this fall. We have been looking at potential college requirements, and at least one strongly recommended an "Advanced Composition" course. Would the writing throughout the four high school guides e...

Re: Singapore Math
I agree with the pp, it is a great program. The emphasis is on understanding, not "drill." I have found my children don't memorize their facts as fast, but they fully understand their math and they do learn the facts well over time. Singapore builds, so don't expect your child to fully understand a ...

Re: Beyond Little Hearts for 3rd grade?
You can definitely use Beyond for a 3rd grader. If you feel he is ready, you could add the Rod and Staff English 2 book (used in Bigger, just do a lesson a day and do most of it orally) and skip the language arts exercises on day 5. If he is beyond the emerging readers you could go ahead and do DITH...

Re: Preparing :: Day 1
I taught Preparing and Beyond last year and I agree with the previous poster. You can go through the teacher material with your Preparing student and then work with Beyond. I put recess right in his schedule so he wasn't impatiently waiting for me. I am not at home, but my schedule looked something ...

Re: placement help, please :)
I am thinking the guide people with 3-5 yr olds were referring to was probably Little Hands to Heaven (LHTH) and not Little Hearts. I would not put your current 4 yr old in anything other than LHTH unless you took two years for Little Hearts and did it 1/2 speed, but if your child has not done LHTH ...

Re: OT: Dyslexia and NOT using OG method
I have been pouring over resources because my son has a lot of dyslexia tendencies. I just started a method I read about in one of the library books and I am already seeing good results. I am using the HOD emerging readers, but will have to add some to "stall" in the level 2 category for awhile. You...

Evaporated milk for Beyond 26 day 4
We will be on unit 26, day 4 in Beyond tomorrow and the activity calls for the students to add food coloring to milk to see how the colors mix. Will this work with evaporated milk or do I need a store run? We drink soy milk, but I have learned from experience that rarely works well Thanks!

Re: Singapore 1A Help
I don't know what the HIG is ( ), but we are now in 4A with one child and 1B with the other child and I can tell you we have NOT drilled math facts and are doing fine. I really want my children to understand math, not just memorize. When my oldest began multiplication I debated if I should st...
