Re: You Time

arstephia-I couldn't have said it better myself!! Years ago it was an idol in my life for sure. Over the last 6 years or so the Lord showed me just what you said. Unfortunately now, I've hit a personal snag where I could use some "extra" help with my kids, as opposed to the small bits of time that I...

Re: You Time

I hope you get some good answers here, Sara.
I get zero time for myself and I pay for it dearly. If there is any way you can work in what you need, do it. Hopefully you'll get a lot of good ideas and sorry I'm not much help!!

Re: Bigger with a 5th grader

I just wanted to add that the books used in Bigger are perfect for a 10 year old. They are very "universal", and I consider them to be of equal benefit for olders as well as youngers.

Hth!

Re: Doing great in Beyond!

I am glad my post is helpful!

Beyond is very well balanced. Everything is just enough, but not too much. He loves the history readings! Yes, we love Am Pioneers and Patriots too.
It is so easy to use, which always helps!!

Doing great in Beyond!

I started Beyond with one of my sons 2 weeks ago. It is going great!!
He loves the books and is thriving with every box. I'm so glad!
His handwriting and reading are just wonderful.
I think Beyond may just be my favorite guide, but we haven't used anything above CtC. So we'll see!

....and I have to say that I think its great that they don't have an understanding of some of these things! Because....things like 'freshman' year and getting in line for everything are not God's design, but mans! :-)

too funny!

Re: First Week - Totally Chaotic and Crazy!

Stawna, you are totally normal! :D

Getting into a groove that really works takes some time. Just keep working from where you are, and adjusting things as you see fit. It will get more comfortable as you go.....less crazy?....probably not, lol. :)

Re: Books for first few weeks of CTC?

The Story of the Ancient World --first 17 units What in the World? CD Set The Golden Bull --first 5 units, or any biography of your choice Genesis:Finding our Roots A Childs Geography Vol. 2 Illustrated Family Bible OR your own Bible (we use our own Bible and it works fine) If you are doing the scie...

Re: Intentionally slower, more relaxed schedule pace?

Very much agreeing with your line of thinking. Too much focus on "getting it done" or the schedule can (for some of us) suck the joy and opportunity of learning at home. And yes, the attitude that we are teaching with is the primary teacher. We can have great content and excellent materials that can...

Re: Overwhelming!

It is so overwhelming! I'll be honest and tell you that I wasted so much time being overwhelmed over curriculum, especially the first few years of homeschooling. I would love to tell you--don't do it! :) Just some input from my past experience on that. HOD is the most open and go that you can get. I...

Re: I ordered CTC!

That is great! So happy for you with everything you went through to get here! I am starting CTC in 2 weeks with my 10 year old. We went over it the other day, and he is really excited about it. He loves the notebook pages so I had to hide them. :) Still doing Little Hearts with my 6 year old and Lit...

Re: Please pray we can homeschool again ***UPDATE***post 17

I'm so happy for you! I don't get on here anymore, but thought I would today for some reason. I'm so glad I did. I needed to see your most recent post. I have been hanging on to homeschooling by a thread the last few months. If we thought there was another option out there that was as good as homesc...

Re: Need advice on ages for Little Hearts For His Glory

Just wanted to chime in and give my LHFHG experience.....:) I was so anxious to start this program with my son. I was chomping at the bit to start before he was 5 years old. If I remember correctly, I did try a couple of boxes a few times to test the waters when he was 4, and then decided to stop. T...

Re: What's the best way to stretch LHFHG to two years?

I would tell you to go with your 'option 1'. 2 and a half days per week is more than enough "schooltime" for a five year old.

You will know what to do. You know your child best!!

But that is what I would do.
