Re: Bigger - In what order do YOU do the boxes?

I am not sure that we ever do it in the same order twice. I have to arrange things around 3 children in different guides. So, I start the day having my son in Bigger and my son in CTC doing as much as they can independently while I worker with my K'er. Once I get through everything with my K'er. I u...

Re: CTC Questions and Need Advice

I am on week 3 of CTC with my 5th grade son. I am also doing Bigger with my 3rd grader, and a modified LHFHG with my K'er. I have been dealing with the same thing with my son - I enjoy the one on one time that we have to read through the amazing books! I have decided that I am definitely going to re...

Re: Placement/Combining Question

I agree, Tiffanie. I would also put them both in LHFHG. You can buy the Beyond guide as well and do the right side of Beyond for your older child. I almost always have a child in 2 guides at one time. (until we hit Preparing) Last year, I did LHFHG with my 1st grader - we did the left side as writte...

Re: Day 5 Of Preparing...What do you do?

My plan was to do co-op on the 5th day each week ... but our co-op fell through. So, I used the 5th day as a field trip and catch up day. We did about 2 field trips per month and it was usually centered around a particular subject like Science or History. 4 days of Preparing as written was enough sc...

Re: I can't decide which book pack I want for Beyond...

With my first son, I did the boy book pack and it was WONDERFUL! With my 2nd son, I am doing a combination of all 3 of the book packs. They are all fantastic books! Can't go wrong!

Re: New to HOD; Trying to Choose Preparing or CTC?

I wanted to add that I use Bigger as a 3rd grade program. I use it with Rod and Staff 3 - even though R & S 2 is what is scheduled. I also use DiTHOR with appropriate level of literature to go with it. You should definitely go to the placement chart and see where he falls on the placement chart. I w...

I have done all the guides from Little Hands to Preparing. My favorite so far, without hesitation, is Preparing.

Re: Preparing vs CTC

I have been using Preparing for 4th grade and have thought many times over this past year that it would make a great 5th grade curriculum as well. His reading and writing skills do matter here in placing him, I agree. If his writing is not very strong, then you may want to place him in Preparing. Ho...

Re: Placement-Preparing or CTC?

Great report! I also want to add that I am using Preparing this year with my 4th grader(not particularly gifted or advanced, but an excellent student), and there have been times that I almost wished he was a little older going through Preparing! The material is so rich and there is so much to really...

Re: Repeating LHFHG...What do you think?

I also have a very wiggly antsy 5 year old. He was able to all the written work without difficulty, but was completely unable to focus on anything that I read out loud to him. So, I decided that he just wasn't ready to be engaged in that type of read aloud. He will sit and listen me read picture boo...

Re: Using LHFHG even though child places in Beyond?

When I used LHFHG with my 2nd son, I did exactly what Carrie just described to you. I used Beyond gentle grammar lessons, the emerging readers, Singapore Math 1A/1B, and the spelling list from Beyond. It was a perfect fit! I agree that you do not want to miss Little Hearts! The read a-louds are so m...

Re: Preparing Storytime

The Tirzah readings are a bit long...but I don't think they are any longer than readings from future story time books. My son LOVED Tirzah! I think you should do whatever works! If doing the story time at night works for you and your daughter then go for it! I seem to remember that I had my son read...

Re: Our last day in Preparing...sniff, sniff

We will not be finished with Preparing until mid July - but I totally get this! I have thoroughly enjoyed Preparing this year, and while I'll be sad to be done with it ... I have 3 more children coming up behind my oldest that will get to go through it as well. It's always fun to start a new guide t...
