Does anyone pre-record any of the read alouds?

I am working on our schedule for this year. We will be doing Beyond and Preparing. My daughter, who is doing Preparing, can read all of the selections on her own. However, last year I fell into the trap of letting her read everything on her own (history, science, story time, and DITHOR). I realized ...

Son still had a hard time with Thornton Burgess

Should I be worried if after a whole year of reading aloud the Thornton Burgess books to my son, he still did not comprehend the reading? We struggled with this portion of the plans all year long. After listening to me read the assigned selections, my son was never able to answer any of the question...

Re: A couple of questions about Bigger...

LeAnna, We did both this year. At the beginning of the school year I tested my dd on each of the spelling lists. We did one spelling list per day. When she got to the point where she missed more than two or three words per list, I slowed down the pace to two lists per week. Whenever she only missed ...

Re: Guilt over not spending enough time with little ones!

Amazing! God never ceases to amaze me! Thank you all so much for helping me through this. I have gotten so much wonderful advice. I think you all are correct in saying that eventually the pendulum would swing the other way and I would end up feeling guilty over not spending enough time with the olde...

Guilt over not spending enough time with little ones!

Hello all, We have had such an awesome year with HOD! We are pretty much done with the school year and are at the point when we have to decide what to do for next year. Like I said before, we have had an amazing time with HOD, especially my 7 yr. old. She started off the year with me reading history...

Re: Discouraged

All, Thank you so much for your encouragement and advice. I feel so blessed to have you. I will be taking everyone's advice in one way or another. We will only be doing 4 days a week of school and will also be changing our daily schedule to meet the needs of my younger children. I will be taking adv...

Discouraged

Last year I homeschooled my 1st grade daughter from October through December and decided that it was too much for me to handle. We enrolled my dd in public school in January. Come May, however, the decision to homeschool the next school year came up again. We felt that homeschool was the right decis...

Happier than I have ever been!

We have just completed three weeks of homeschool. I cannot imagine myself doing anything different. I have never been happier in my life. I wake up with purpose and excitement to spend time with my children. I went into this so afraid of failing. I am so thankful for Carrie, Julie, and all their fam...

My dd does not repeat it to me, she only writes it down. We do use the bottom words.

Re: Feeling Guilty

Jenny, Thank God I am not the only one feeling this way today. I felt really scared, jealous, and guilty all day yesterday. I was convinced I could not do it and that we had somehow made a wrong choice. I kept telling my dh that we were wrong, that we did not really hear God when He told us to homes...

Re: Search is coming up blank- 4 or 5 day schedule question

Our plan this year is to do school three months on and one month off. In a way we will be doing school year round. The summers in south Texas are very harsh and we need to be in-doors for most of the summer. We are doing school four days a week. We will just pick up on Monday with day five after the...

Re: Left-Handed child using spiral notebook?

My dd is a leftie also, she has never complained about the spirals. I just make sure to remind her to slant her book. Also, you could just have your son write on the back part of the page. I guess all of us right handed people experienced this when we wrote on the back side of the spiral page. Weird...
