Re: Dissapointed with history book...???

Hi, I wanted to point out that Pedro's Journal presents another view of Columbus. I love that many views are explored. The discussions around our home have been good. Carrie seems to have a very balanced approach with Eggleston's book and Pedro's Journal. This seems true across the curriculum. HTH, ...

Hello. I have my kiddos do their math, cursive, handwriting, memory work, etc. first thing in the am while I do my chores. My oldest helps the younger if they have questions or unsure about what next. This works wonderfully for me!! then they can pick the box but they usually keep the same order eve...

Re: New here....please help!

Kelley, I have 2 in excellent colleges and 2 young ones still at home. My college 2 are both on the deans list. I thought I would respond with some of my older insight. Take what will work for you and leave the rest behind. First, you can totally use preparing with your 2nd grader. Just read a diffe...

Re: Bigger w/ Extensions enough for an 11yo (will be 12)?

Hello. I am so glad I read this thread. We are also planning to use Bigger with our 12 year old. She is excited about it and I plan to boost it with the extension pack and an alternating of written, illustrated narrations and Writing Trails in American History. She can listen or read This Country of...

Re: Help in planning our future guides.

Alison, I just read your post and thought I would give my 2 cents worth. You could totally use the guides with high school if you bulk up the writing and literature and add high school science, foreign language and whatever electives you wanted. I have graduated 2 who are attending colleges on schol...

Re: Emerging Readers question...

Allison, if you and your child like games you could add Happy Phonics to HOD for the phonics just to solidify the phonics and use whatever readers you choose. Explode the code goes along with Happy Phonics- just jump the easier beginning games and find where to start. Just a thought.

Re: science in beyond question and a vent

A helpful suggestion for the drawing segment is to let your son pick one thing out of the picture to focus on drawing. This can be less intimidating. He could even start by tracing that one thing and the filling in the details that he choses to include. This is how I work with my child that has simi...

CTC science question

We have slowed CTC down and have been doing half days and my dd is already speeding it up. We love the program!! One problem, the science book is excellent but my 11yodd knows most of what is being taught. This is an area she loves and has spent alot of time on. I have a few ideas and wanted your th...

Re: Trying to hang in there...

I wanted to encourage you about your little ones. Did you know that in most European countries they do not start FORMAL academics until the age of 7. Their schools are day care mostly because they recognize that children are not ready for FORMAL academics until around 7. So, if you spend 5 minutes a...

How to use extensions with CTC

I searched for this thread but could not find an answer. How do you use the extensions with CTC? Do you replace the history or girl interest or do you read all of the packages??

Re: Switching to Preparing from CTC ???

Thank you for your thoughts. Money is a concern but I could buy along and along instead of one big chunk and the younger one can use it later. She seems a little overwhelmed by the research and writing demands. This was a little jump for her but I think she is ready. I believe I will take it slow fo...

Switching to Preparing from CTC ???

My 11 yodd who is an average reader but really struggles with writing and abstract thinking is having a hard time completing all the work in CTC. We both enjoy it but I do not think she was ready for it. This is our first time with HOD. Should I switch to Preparing or struggle through? I am not conc...

preparing before ctc ??

This is actually from an older thread but wanted some thoughts... I am an old timer but this is our 1st year with HOD. My 11 yodd is having trouble with CTC, she enjoys it but is not getting thru the work every day. NOW, we have only done 2 weeks but have done them by half days to get used to the pr...

Re: Is ANYONE else doing Hearts for HIm Through Time?

We couldn't wait and started this week at half pace using the website week at a glance for the guide. My TM and notebooking pages should be here in the next few days so we are going slowly this week and maybe next to enjoy warming up to the material. I am thrilled with the material. My daughter is a...
