Re: LHFHG?

I used LHFHG right side when my son turned 5yrs Oct 29th. (He is 7 now). We didn't do the left side. We would add in our own science and Bible. HE was so not ready for history. However, he did like the storytime. the next year we used the left side of LHFHG. we did our own storytime, continued on le...

Re: Please help me understand DITHOR

I am using Beyond with my 7yr old 1st grader. We used DIthor right after finishing the Emerging Readers set. We modify it at times so that it is done orally or I will do most of the writing as he dictates the answers to me. We also have been taking it slow. For instance we take 2 days to read what w...

Re: several levels at once?

I just posted to another mom talking about combining. I am not a big fan of combining. Now i only have 3 kids, but another is due in March. My two eldest are only 16 months apart and i tried hard to figure out how to combine them and just couldn't do it. The levels they are at and personalities caus...

Re: Combining 2.5 years apart in age, 3 school years

With that many years apart, i would think it would be easier to just do two guides. Sometimes all the tweaking can make it more difficult when you should be able to just open up a guide and use it as it is. Just my opinion. next fall i will have 3 in guides. one in LHTH, one in BEyond, one in Bigger...

Re: New to HOD, ? about LHTH/LHFHG

If it were me i would probably do LHFHG in two years. Sounds like ready for phonics side and then the next year you could add in the histroy side and the whatever level of phonics, math, etc she is at. Then when you get to the next guide she will be ready for it. I have taken breaks or done the 2yr ...

Re: LHFHG for Kindergarten?

I am using it currently for my daughter who was 5.5 yrs in Sept. for Kindergarten. She does just fine. She enjoys the history. The storytime i do have to make sure that no one else is distracting her. She liked Reddy Fox and seems to be enjoying the 3rd storytime the best so far with Danny Meadow Mo...

Re: LHFHG 6YO - finishing our phonics lesson in a few weeks.

After we finished 100 Easy Lessons last fall with my son (who turned 6 then) in October, we did about 2 months of just reading books from library that were either suggested in the back of that manual or ones with the same reading level. Then we just started the Emerging reading list books with the "...

Re: I am confused about beyond

Just to add. I never saw the thinking skills book (at least #2) as an LA focus. I just see it as giving my son a little extra challenge and have seen things in the wkbk that are not in Beyond.
We only do 1 page, 3x a week so it is not that much of a workload.

Re: I am confused about beyond

I got a book for my son who is in 1st grade this year, using Beyond. We actually got the Thinking Skills 2 book. the 1st one looked like it wouldn't be challenging enough for him. There may be a few pages i rearrange for him to do later in the year, but otherwise we are following along 3x a week and...

Re: Not sure....

Try not to borrow worries from tomorrow. :D August is still a ways off! A lot can happen between now and then. Little Hands doesn't take very long so I wouldn't be concerned about using it w/ another program. If you allow your son to watch tv, I would get the Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD. I don't k...

Re: Not sure....

I would perhaps take it half-speed with your son. If he will just be turning 6 the maturity might not be there. You could alternate the sides of guide if that is better for you and then if he starts to need more as you go along you could go full-speed. It is amazing how much changes in 6 months some...

Re: A Reading Question

I don't think my son has ever read to a group! HE just started DITHOR. He gave a few sentences "reports" during co-op last fall and sometimes he will read a book to his sisters.
That is my experience. Enjoy reading :)

Re: Finishing reading lesson - help, now what?

in Beyond there is one day a week for language arts and spelling 4 days a week. That is plenty for my son who is in first grade and turned 7 yrs in October. He excels in reading and we are in the middle of our first book for DITHOR 2/3. I wouldn't worry too much more about language arts and just use...
