With that many years apart, i would think it would be easier to just do two guides. Just to add. I never saw the thinking skills book (at least #2) as an LA focus. I just see it as giving my son a little extra challenge and have seen things in the wkbk that are not in Beyond.
We only do 1 page, 3x a week so it is not that much of a workload.

I would perhaps take it half-speed with your son. If he will just be turning 6 the maturity might not be there. I don't think my son has ever read to a group! HE just started DITHOR. He gave a few sentences "reports" during co-op last fall and sometimes he will read a book to his sisters.
