Re: New Homeschooling Mom-- discipline

Having a good level of discipline and obedience in your family life in general will be a HUGE boost to your transition to homeschooling. If you feel things are not up to par, by all means take some time to get child training and bonding/rapport in place before you start! Being a happy, "confident-in...

Re: introduction and placement help

Welcome! Great user name!

My vote would be for CTC as well. Writing and writing skills are a important part of HoD and are practiced throughout all subjects. If she places in CTC in the area of writing, then my guess is that the whole guide will be more comfortable for her.

Re: Bigger question for a child not interested in History

Another option would be to put your older in Bigger and your younger in Little Hearts, with skill-appropriate math, reading, and handwriting. Good listening skills are key to success with HoD, and you don't want to overwhelm your younger student right off the bat. HoD books tend to be literature-ric...

Yes, here's what I do. The cookbook holder works great for painting! I also highly recommend the clear contact paper on the cover. My guide has held up beautifully this year.

Re: CTC supplies, questions, thoughts

We used a set of cake watercolors from Miller Pads and Paper. It was not expensive, lasted all year, and made beautiful pictures. For handwriting, I slipped a "desk strip" from our handwriting program into the clear cover of the binder that holds DS's notepaper. That way it is available if he needs ...

Re: Week In Review 5/23/11-5/27/11

WE HAVE FINISHED CTC!!! What a fun, awesome, rich, full year. I can't believe how much both DS and I have learned! What amazes me most of all is the growth in DS's writing skills. Both in quantity and quality. We went from moans and groans when a single sentence was required to DS starting a journal...

Re: Organizing your HOD year

Just wanted to share something that really worked well for last year and again for this year. For planning my schoolyear, I printed out this one page calendar . You can choose which year and which month you'd like it to begin with. Then I sat down and wrote the numbers for the HoD units in the blank...
