Living Library

If your child read the Living Library books for high school, how did you list that on the transcripts since it was extra and didn't count in the history credit?

Re: Cost

Tell him depending on where you live (here in AZ), the ps system spends $8,000 per child an it's not enough! :D

Re: The Fallacy Detective Timing?

Fallacy Detective moves pretty quickly. If he falls for ads and such, this book is fantastic and I'd recommend it first. It's called, "Made you Look! How advertising works and Why You Should Know."

Fallacy Detective would follow this book nicely.

Re: returning to HOD after one year of public high school ?

Sorry I wasn't clear. The goal is to bring them home and continue with HOD through graduation, have them get a job, and save for college. They, however, want to continue going to school because they really enjoy it and it is easy . My complaint is that I am not satisfied with the education they are...

I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking to bring them home or supplement their English? :D

Sorry to take up board space on this.

LOL! I confuse myself often. Interesting topic though.

I always thought that is learned through history and government!

Re: Letting your child have input in curriculum choices

I'd love some input about this. My DS, 8.5, has done CLE LA for 1st and some of 2nd grade (we don't use it for penmanship or spelling). We started using Rod and Staff as scheduled in the Bigger guide the 2nd half of this school year. I have started really enjoying it and DS has done fine with it, s...

Re: R&S Grammar Placement/Pacing

Hi Candice!

I wouldn't skip 6 either. 7 is a huge jump from 5 and 6 will be sorely needed if you tried to skip it. It has the brunt of a lot of upper level skills. Just do it daily.

Re: importance of diagramming?

I used to ask myself this regularly until I found the true value of it in the book, The Well Trained Mind. I'm not a classical educator by any means, but it's explained well in this book, so I can only quote tidbits here that I wish I'd have known way back: "It reveals the logic of the sentence stru...

Amen, Daybreaking!!! Thank you for filling in the details!

I also know that college isn't what it used to be. I like the college at home scenario as well.

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?

Take this for what it's worth, because I am a non-conformer. It is difficult, because I'm surrounded by the public school mindset even though most of the people I know homeschool (albeit through co-ops.) I try very hard not to be driven by doing something for money or lack thereof, nor the world's w...

Re: Which Reading Books To Choose?

Also, just so you know, what kids choose to read on their own, is usually their "comfort level" level of reading. That means that's the level they enjoy to read for enjoyment and they are capable of more.

Nope, mine doesn't have it either. I had laminated the one from WG, so I didn't notice it was missing and US1 has it right after Literary Synthesis.

Re: High School narrations

Basically I am looking for something that will help teach and give experience in taking notes & study skills should he decide to attend a Bible college or technical school. He has had experience with the regular narrations. We have one subject this past year where I had him switch over to narrating...
