Re: Singpore math in Bigger ? facts or no facts ?

If you own any of Singapore's Home Instructor Guides (HIGs), there are some great "mental math" pages in the appendixes. My second son struggled with xtramath.com, but doing a few mental math questions each day has really helped with multiplication facts. I've also heard good things about Times Tale...

Re: Finishing Emerging Readers but not ready for DITHOR

I'm not sure if this would be recommended or not, but what about using DITHR's Level 2 books without the program. If you held off on DITHR for a while, she would most likely be ready for the Level 3 books when/if you started DITHR anyway. Starting with The Littles would be a good choice and they hav...

Re: Just started and feeling a little overwhelmed!

Welcome to HOD, Nicole. :D You've received lots of great advice. I just wanted to share a few thoughts. 1. Peruse the schedule thread if you need scheduling tips. But don't feel guilty if a strict schedule is not your first love :D . I thought a strict schedule would be great for us, but it resulted...

Re: Help with going 1/2 speed please

Hello. Doing Beyond at half-speed sounds like a good idea for your little man. Bigger is definitely a big jump up in writing activities. A suggestion would be to begin implementing copywork when you feel your son is ready. Beginning with just a line or two of the poem of course and taking no more th...

Here is a post with a few highlights of our first few weeks. :D http://jessatinchristalone.blogspot.com/2011/09/schooling-highlights-sept-2011.html We had a beautiful day here today and were able to head to the beach with a fellow HODer who's using Bigger too. The kids were excited to find moon snai...

Re: Need Help with BHFHG and advanced student

Hi Alicia, We are using Bigger for our third grader this year too. My son has found the dictation easy so far as well which is encouraging to him. If you bump your daughter up higher on the dictation list and she's still able to do it effortlessly, you could use the dictation in the next guide up. I...

Have a Blessed 2011-2012 School Year!

Hello everyone! Many of you have most likely already started your year, but I just wanted to take the time to say "hello" and "enjoy your year". Those days may be long sometimes, but it seems as though the years fly by. I'll try to remember that when the baby's crying, the toddler's whining, the pho...

Re: LHFHG - what do I do if DD(young)5 can read?

You could try her out with one of the first Emerging Readers and see how she does. If you don't own any of them, your library probably does. The ERs don't connect in any way with the Beyond program. They just happened to be scheduled with that guide, but can be used with Little Hearts or Bigger if n...
