Re: Science with Beyond Question

Here is a quote from the Christian Liberty Press website: "Second grade students will delight to study creation based upon the six-day account described in the book of Genesis. Students learn about what God made during each of the days of creation. In full-color format, students explore the creation...

Re: Pray for Carrie & Julie as the 2011 conferences begin

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to share HOD with others. It cannot be easy to leave your families. I look forward to the day when I can meet you in person.
With much appreciation and gratitude for all you do,

Re: Becoming Independent

My husband and I attended a Christian school using ACE School of Tomorrow through grades K - 12. Needless to say, we have chosen a different path in educating our children. :D HOD is so different from the workbook approach, and I do understand your feelings. However, I feel my children are learning ...

Re: Started LHFHG today...a few questions

Happy first HOD day! Here are a few thoughts for you: The first half of LHFHG uses the Family Time Bible and History for Little Pilgrims (occasionally) for the History reading. These are wonderful resources for younger kids and holds their attention well. The second half of LHFHG uses History for Li...

Re: Books for dithor and storytime

Jenn, Does your library have any of these you could preview first? I looked them up on Amazon as I have one on my bookshelf (I haven't read it yet) and wanted to get an idea of what they'll be like. Most of the reviews are ok, but there were a couple of reviews that made me :? . I'll get back to you...

Re: Valentine's Day fun - Why do you "heart" Heart of Dakota?

I "heart" HOD because it works for all types of children. It works for my quiet and serious son who loves the "couch snuggling" and it works for my silly and fun-loving son who loves to "act it out". :D

Re: Looking for Advice on Curriculum Choices

The reading levels for the Magic Tree House books are anywhere from 2.0 - 4.0. The Level 2 books for DITHOR have reading levels from 3.0 - 4.1. The Level 3 books for DITHOR have reading levels from 3.5 - 5.1. My almost 8 year old recently completed the Emerging Readers (ERs) and has made a smooth tr...

Re: has anyone used 4 guides?

Nancy, Carrie is schooling four children, so her recently posted schedule may be helpful to you. Here's a link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2093&start=120 Combining your oldest two in Bigger Hearts may be a good idea as beverett suggested. The extension pack for Bigger wi...

Re: Is it okay to start LHFHG without starting phonics?

Yes, The Reading Lesson is definitely "gentle". I began this with my youngest son when he turned five and we've been working through it very slowly at a pace he can be comfortable with and even enjoy it. If The Reading Lesson is a possibility for you, I would encourage you to try it sooner rather th...

We are looking forward to Bigger in the fall too. I've ordered titles from the Classic, Boy and Girl Set! :D Baby Island, Ben and Me, The Whipping Boy and By the Great Horn Spoon are titles I don't want to miss. My son can't wait to hear The Indian in the Cupboard, Balto, Encyclopedia Brown and Rabb...

My goal is to read at least two from each genre. So far, it's working well!
