Re: Question about pencil grip............

my dd holds her pencil all wrong.. and a lefty to boot. One reason is her grip is not strong. We are using techniques to strengthen her hand like resistance to her fingers as she presses out. I can already see a shift in her grip as her hand becomes stronger. she also says its not as uncomfortable ...

If you find yourself nagging, these are the cure. Can't help but hold the pencil correctly.

Re: Art supplies

Another back to school supply topic :D Do you buy art supplies at Walmart/Target or do you get artist quality ones? Or both? I need to order something from Miller Paper and saw that they have some sets of art supples. We've always gone the crayola route, but as the kids are getting older I wonder i...

Re: No Drama Forum- TY!!!!!

Carrie- I forgot to thank Mike in all of this too so please pass that along to him. :D So glad you found refreshment in the midst of your hard work. I only go to one other message board to discuss homeschooling questions that do not pertain to HOD. But this is still my FAVE place to be. I'd ...

Re: Beyond/Bigger together?

Hi Julie, Looking at the Storytimes, would it be possible to alternate between the choices for Bigger and Beyond? Anotherwards pick one harder book, then an easier one and have all the children listen in? I can't see having time to do two read-alouds each day. Thanks for all you advice, Shannon Goo...

Re: Do you have trouble thinking like Singapore math?

The rectangle bar makes perfect sense. I hadn't seen them so far with our book. I can do the rectangles and she will be able to see what I am talking about without looking at me like I have went crazy trying to explain it to her. She does pretty good with the singapore math. We do the activities an...

Re: No Drama Forum- TY!!!!!

The topics on that board - many boards I've visited - were often mean-spirited and totally had nothing to do with homeschooling. Mike and Carrie had a long talk about what they wanted this forum to be, and first and foremost, they wanted the talk upon it to be Christian, uplifting, and related to HO...

Re: No Drama Forum- TY!!!!!

I would much rather keep the drama to real life and my cyber friends for encouraging each other in this venture of homeschooling. It is nice to walk away from the forums and feel good, encouraged, and hopeful. It is so refreshing to come here and have nothing but uplifting posts that are centered ar...

Re: question about Bigger book sets

Kim, Well, what are you waiting for? Order it all! Even if your son needed to lighten up a bit down the road, that is easily done. Seeing that he is so highly motivated, that probably won't be necessary. I am greatly encouraged by your testimony, as my 10yo 5th grader will be working through t...

Re: Phonics? Help please!

We are having even more fun with this today, because ds keeps reading it like and "o" because I had already told him that "a" pretends to be an "o" sometimes when we were reading his name (Ricardo). Poor thing now he has to remember three different sounds for "a". Poor thing?...nah. The letter "a" ...

Re: Please pray..

Amey,
I have prayed and will continue to pray for you and your sweet baby. As I was
praying for both of you I was reminded of Jeremiah 29:11 "I know the plans I have
for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future."

In Him,

Re: Reading question

Allison, Many years ago, I discovered an incredibly simple idea from a friend who has 11 children. She had a rule that when the children went to bed that they had the option of reading awhile before turning in. That was it. Read or go to sleep. After a time, they always chose to read. Habits were de...
