Re: I am sooooo confused! Please help me decide

I think I can help some! First of all, your paragraph about how the writing seemed too much for her in Preparing and that the books seemed too mature for her. Well, that is your answer! You should start at her level - which sounds like it is Bigger. Trust your gut there. As for your concerns about h...

Re: History in Biggers?

I didn't realize that Bigger only went to the Vietnam war. Hmmm...my older son is just itching to read about Desert Storm and the world trade center. Sounds like we will need to do that on our own. That will be a good summer bridge on to the next HOD guide. :) Of course, my son is almost 10, so the ...

Re: Can we skip bigger?

My post above was edited after reconsidering my unique situation. Please disregard my earlier advice as I realize now (especially based on the different situations and the age of your child vs the age of my older who is coming from a different curriculum) that you would definitely be much better to ...

Am I understanding DITHOR correctly?

Okay...tell me if this is correct as far as DITHOR goes. Say my child is in 2nd grade and starts DITHOR in the 2/3 level. We choose our books, do the program, and then finish up. Here is where I wonder....I *think* DITHOR is made to be repeated with the same level 2/3 but picking different books for...

Re: New - Questions about Phonics/Reading

My son is also 5 and reading well. We have decided to keep plugging along with ETC just to cover all phonics, but we are also still doing the emerging readers. My son is read for them so I won't hold him back. Reading is one of those things that only gets better with time and practice, so there is r...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

I went back and read through all the posts on this thread, because honestly, I just didn't GET it. I mean, it just seemed so simple and obvious. Now I have figured out why. LOL I have a school room. In my school room, each of my kids have a desk. On each child's desk are crayons, pencils, a ruler, t...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

I do agree about the expense for the "boxes". I.. being quite unorganized  am looking for a kind of in between of your check mark paper plan, and a whole Box system. I really don't have the space for these giant systems in some of the links. But I love the idea in modification. Or maybe you c...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

Hi, I'm Geo. This is my first post here. I will be using Bigger next year with my youngest 2, 10yodd & 7yods. I have ordered the workbox book and hope to implement it as soon as possible. The real plus for me is that it was originally developed for her son who is on the autism spectrum. What is so ...

Re: Can we skip bigger?

This year, we did CHOW for an overview of World History (We were not using HOD at the time). This coming year, we are doing Bigger, and the next year, we are skipping Preparing and going to HHTT. However, this is a very unique situation involving a much older child coming from a different curriculum...

Re: DITHOR - Picking books

My advice, if it pains you, buy the book suggestion guide. You can't go wrong there! And it will also show you where your book falls as far as the levels, which I have found so helpful.

Re: LHFHG or Beyond for 1st grade??

Oh...and as for Finding the books...bookmooch and paperback swap have been wonderful! What I haven't gotten there (free!), I have bought used. Last night, I posted a "want to buy" ad at the WTM forum and one of the great ladies there had 4 of the books I was looking for and I paid very little for th...

Re: LHFHG or Beyond for 1st grade??

I was in the same dilemma as you just a few weeks ago. My older son who is 10 will be doing Bigger with Extensions (because we want to focus on American History this year before we start the 4 year cycle). He will jump on to HHTT the next year. However, my younger was the issue - 1st grade, will be ...
