Re: Military HOD Families

We are a Navy family in Germany. Coming over here years ago, I brought our HOD manuals and several of the books with us on the airplane. It was really helpful for us to have in the hotel room while we searched for a house. Then we set it all aside when the household goods shipment came and picked it...

Re: alternative story time books for LHFHG

Milly Molly Mandy is a fun book for girls (and boys) too. Also Little House on the Prairie series (though some of these are used in later guides so you might want to wait). We are not to the Beatrix Potter book yet, but I amazed at how much all my children enjoy the Burgess books. I kinda thought it...

Re: living books about rome for 3rd grader

Triumph for Flavius is used in Preparing so you might want to wait to read that one! :)

There's an Usborne book called Who Were the Romans? that you might be able to find at your library.

Re: LHFHG with a hyper 6yo boy?

I think LHFHG is a wonderful program for my non-stop 5 year old boy. He loves it. He loves all the active things like the Rhymes in Motion but he'll sit for the readings too. As another poster said, I allow him to have a toy to play with as we read, if he wants. I also often read while the kids are ...

Re: Comparing HOD & WinterPromise

WP's animals one has a bit of overlap with Preparing, at least with using the One Small Square books for Arctic Tundra, Desert and Coral Reef. I guess that would still leave you the other 4 habitats to do with AW, which would mean it wouldn't last quite a year (unless you go on lots of rabbit trails...

Re: can i combine my k and 2nd grader into 1?? HELP

I'm really new to HOD so I'm not sure my comments are helpful, but here goes... We started LHFHG, I think in May, and made it through about unit 5, combining both my 7 & 5 year old, until we took a break for summer vacation. I was planning to start back up soon but add in the right-side of Beyond fo...

Re: ? about combining: can I really wait this long to start?

I understand about eagerness! I'm having a hard time waiting to start Beyond, now that I'm looking at the manual and seeing how great it looks. But I didn't use HOD before recently so I don't know what I would of done in your shoes - wait for the younger one to catch up or go ahead with LHFHG... It'...

Re: ? about combining: can I really wait this long to start?

My ds is 7 and he is enjoying LHFHG. I'm planning to add the right side of BLHFHG for him in a month or so, but I wanted to start off slower so we get used to the flow of the program first. Also to help his younger brother (age 5.5) get used to joining us for "school" time. Not because he (the 7 yr ...

We use whatever version is used on the Hide 'Em in Your Heart CD. I think it's NIV?

Re: I want to start now!

I understand the feeling. I love to plan too. I didn't find HOD at first, started with another curriculum for my oldest. So I'm combining my boys now in LHFHG at ages 5 & 7. But I'm not sure either what to do with the two girls, whether to hold back the oldest to wait for the youngest or not. I thin...

Re: YAY! I have finally decided!

I'm fairly new here so, sorry, hadn't been praying for you before. But I am very excited to hear this! I have a friend who keeps asking and asking me about homeschooling. Her husband really wants the kids home too. She is just so nervous, even to take her oldest out of preschool now. I understand, a...

Re: Starting LHFHG today

Thanks for the encouragement. We didn't quite get through the entire first day but what we did was very fun. All 4 of my kids especially loved the Rhymes in Motion. At first my 7 year old didn't want to join but then said "can you please start over with me?" after he saw how much fun the rest of the...

Starting LHFHG today

I hadn't planned to start so soon as we were suppose to be moving this summer. But now our move has been pushed until Fall (maybe) so we are giving it a go early. Hoping we can get through a bit over the summer, then we'll be able to take a couple months break whenever the move does happen. I'm exci...

Re: Will I be able to purchase books at convention?

Oh I wish I could come. We live in the Kansas City area, but I'm out of town this weekend.

We were in South Dakota for the Easter weekend, playing in the snow! So probably our rainy weather here will not be so cold for you SD folks. :)

Re: Where to place my almost 6 year old...

I'm new to HOD, so take my comments with that in mind... If your almost 6 year old did Beyond, then would you move him up to Bigger the next year? Meaning, would you be teaching Bigger 2 years in row? I only ask because I read Carrie commenting in another post somewhere that doing a program 2 years ...
