Re: Update: In case you missed it.... Science for RTR

I was going to add Apologia Astronomy in this year, so now I can save it and have it all planned out for me (even better) :) I also have the Ann Voskamp book that we have not had the chance to use yet either AND the Signs and Seasons for future use. It is as if you looked at my bookshelf of things t...

Re: Electricity experiments in Bigger Hearts

We were doing this experiment today and could not get sparks on the carpet either. We have a plastic slide inside that generates alot of static so the sparks really started flying then! Some people do have more of a charge too. My 9 yo has alot of charge so she made alot of sparks for us (she can ev...

Re: First Book in American History

Thanks for the links and advice. I guess this has been discussed a few other times-I just did not find it in my search. LOL We tried acting it out and it was successful. I still had to to do most of the narrating, but I had them read it again for the details. They were excited to act it out so the m...

Re: First Book in American History

We did Pioneers and Patriots last year (not as part of Beyond though) along with misc library books. We enjoyed these alot, so we have had some background but not extensive. Even my 9 yo, who LOVES read-alouds, does not enjoy this book. However the good news is they love the idea of acting out the s...

Re: First Book in American History

Doing something else has always been a big distraction, so I don't think that will help with improving interest in the book. Thanks for the suggestion though, I have heard that this works for alot of dc. I think I will just get a general history of the US (maybe the Complete Book of United States Hi...

First Book in American History

I lost my original post so here I go again... We are enjoying Bigger for the most part with one exception. We all find The First Book in American History trribly dry and unengaging. We have enjoyed the other books for the most part (through week 7) and love Stories of Great Americans. I am consideri...

So what are your extras/electives??

We have been doing Bigger for a few months now (hit or miss over the summer) and really enjoying it. It has plenty to keep us busy but there are a few other extras I want to add like foreign language, some classical music study, maybe some extra art and more science experiments. So what, if any, ext...

sea shell book recommendation

We are finishing One Small Square Seashore and love the last few pages with the different types of shells. We have several jars of shells that we are trying to identify but the One Small Square does not have most of them pictured. Does anyone know of a good guide book with pictures of lots of differ...

Re: where to start in the Emerging Reader Schedule

You could also have read the Bible portion out loud at a faster rate and go over the questions. This will help to see how her comprehension is too. If it is really easy for her do a whole week in one sitting-you will zip right through it. :D

Re: How much hands on stuff in older programs?

I love that there is more crafty stuff as they get older. So many have crafts for younger kids, which usually ends up being done by the parent. When they are actually capable of doing crafts many curriculums do not have them. Thanks for making sure it is fun for the older ones too :D Gina

Re: Week in Review 3-20

We are ALL learning already!! We just started Bigger and were oing over the lesson for geography-putting index cards on a ball for the 7 continents and 5 oceans. My husband was just getting home from work and asked "5 oceans?? I thought there were only 4." Well back in our day, many years ago we wer...
