Re: Child not enjoying an activity- make them do it anyway?
Here's one comical quote from Charlotte Mason that makes me laugh out loud  , because I am reminded of this daily in my house! "The mother who takes pains to endow her children with good habits secures for herself smooth and easy days; while she who lets their habits take care of themselves ha...

Re: Does LHTH include any literature study?
"Does it just cover Bible with devotional readings and corresponding music and fingerplays to learn the alphabet with some art thrown in too?" Yep it has all that!! I'm not sure if you are thinking it has JUST devotional for the Bible portion or not... it also has individual Bible readings daily alo...

Re: If you've done Singapore 3...
Okay, I am by no means an expert here... I have NEVER taught math and my oldest is only 4  Anyway, here are my thoughts on it. From everything I have heard about SM, your dd is VERY young to be attempting 3A!!! What if you started 2B again with her (using the hands on stuff in the HOD guide al...

Re: Finally, a plan for my olders, now.....
1. If my looking into the future is correct ( ), then Nora will probably end up reading- and math-wise, a couple of programs above her bible/history programs. Will that work in the long run? (And should I even be thinking of that now?) It will be completely fine if she is "ahead" in reading and math...

Re: Emerging Reader?
My daughter is just about exactly like how you describe your daughter! I have decided to wait on the emerging readers for my dd. I know she's just not ready yet, and I feel no need to push her. I also want her to LOVE to read. :D This is what I have been doing with my dd... 1) I read a loud quite a ...

Re: HOD and Workbox Systems...
I think it would be absolutely perfect for a 4th grader!! :D Actually, I think the "ideal" ages for workboxes (if there is an ideal age) is probably somewhere in the 6-10 range. I have just started using them with my "almost 5" year old, and I know of people who use them with their 12 and 13 year ol...

Re: How do YOU do workboxes with HOD?
I can't really help you with the breakdown of how to do the boxes. I think that may be something you just have to play around with a little bit until you get the right "feel" for how you want it to work. I just started doing workboxes with my dd this past week! It has helped our day go MUCH more smo...

Re: combine or not to combine...
Well, I can tell you what I plan on doing with my kids. My first dd is almost 5 and we just started doing LHFHG with her. She is on the young end of the guide, so we are only going at half speed, but it is a great fit for her. She really is beyond LHTH at this point. My next dd is right at 2.5. She ...

Re: choosing the right level
The best way to get a feel for what you should do is to tell us where each of your children fit on the placement chart. http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php Once we know where each of your kiddos place on the chart, then we will get a better feel for if you should put them in seperate...

Re: Phonics
Based on what you have said, I actually would recommend ETC. You could start at book 2 and then just get as far as you get this year. Honestly, I would NOT rush into finishing phonics just for the sake of finishing. If you end up skipping parts, yes, your child will learn how to read most likely, bu...

Hummmm, it sounds like she is ready to start the emerging readers to me? I'm not an expert though!
