I plan on starting CTC in a couple months. If my son isn't doing well in grammar, will we be okay in R and S 4? I'd prefer to try CTC as written.
Thank you,
Alison

Re: Verbs & Helping Verbs help
Is it not clear enough in the Rod and Staff book, or is she just hitting a road block with understanding it? I'm curious since we haven't covered that information and I think I'll be using R and S 4 this fall.

Re: Math-u-see vs Singapore??
Amy's problem with Singapore was what I experienced. We weren't getting enough review (and at the time I didn't know how to teach as well, so I didn't think about just stopping and doing worksheets or something like that) and I never understood when my child should know things in their head and when...

Re: Grammar placement for soon to be 11 yo
He'll be turning 11 in April, and we'll start CTC sometime around July, unless I get a wild hare and decide to start sooner. We've went through a few programs but not consistently because it was like pulling teeth. He's mostly worked from Easy Grammar last year. I think I'm going to break out Winsto...

Re: Grammar placement for soon to be 11 yo
Want to hijack for a minute and ask a question about this. We haven't used RS for grammar and it's probably my son's weakest subject. I'll be starting on CTC with him this fall so I was assuming I'd use level 4 with him, but should I just do 3?

Re: Frustrating child of mine.
Wow, I went to dh yesterday in frustration over ds dawdling...and he totally understood ds, and brought up the benefits to public schooling (knife in the heart  ). I was really surprised. Dh just said that for him, he felt like when you go to school you know your job. You sit in your chair an...

Re: Frustrating child of mine.
Thank you ladies! I'm calmer now and I've been patiently sitting down with ds since I had my whine fest. I know my son is smart, in a way, but it definitely doesn't show in his writing or English skills  ....well, sometimes in his other subjects either. But I think he's probably not paying ...

Re: Frustrating child of mine.
Thank you ladies, really. I know what I should do for school to go smoother for him...but I'm wondering when will this get better because he''ll be 11 soon. I'm just ready. This is why my school days seem to take forever. My girls are still working on phonics and really needing me by their side but ...

Re: Carrie, a question about foreign languages.
Have you ever looked at Prima Latina? I was wondering if I should use it first, before trying something like Getting Started With Latin....which does look simple and good.
Thank you,

We started it yesterday and my son liked it okay...he didn't think it was as good as Hardy Boys though.

Re: Any advice would be nice!
My middle daughter does this. I have two that can listen great to stories and can tell me everything back, but the middle daughter just cannot do it. I'm hoping it will improve as she gets older. I believe she does better when she reads the information herself, so maybe you could have her read some ...

Frustrating child of mine.
Does anyone else have one of those kids that you feel like you have to stay by their side constantly to keep them going? Seriously, will they ever grow out of it? I know I'm venting, and I dont' want it to sound like I do not love and appreciate this child of mine, because I totally do. But some day...

Re: Carrie, a question about foreign languages.
Well, unfortunately we've only been over about 15 words and that just doesn't feel very successful. I've definitely thought about doing a roots vocab program of some kind, but that's when I just decided to do Latin :) . I'll have to do some searching. I'm thinking it might be a lot of the Latin prog...

Carrie, a question about foreign languages.
Can you share with me if you are doing any foreign language with your children and if so when do you think is the best time to begin? I'm struggling with a certain latin program right now with my oldest and I've come to the conclusion that I'm just wasting our time. Other than learning a few vocab w...
