Re: Bigger in 4 days?

It sounds like you've given some great thought to this and I think it looks great! But are you happy with it? It sounds as if there might be something you want to "perfect". If there is can you articulate it - and let's see what we can do. Otherwise, let me offer you this thought. IMHO, the most im...

Re: Bigger in 4 days?

We're not using the complete Bigger product, but I've noticed in the books we're using the work seems to "lighten" on the 4th and 5th day. It may very well be possible to combine your day 4 and 5 and to even opt out on a thing or 2 where there's duplication. My suggestion would be to create a 5 day...

Bigger in 4 days?

I received my guide for Bigger on Wednesday afternoon. I spent a fair amount of time devouring it. I knew that it was a 5day schedule, so I knew I was going to need to rearrange some things and probably eliminate some things to accommodate our 4day schedule. I looked through the posts to try and fin...

Re: Math U See vs Singapore

Background- Oldest ds (homeschooled beginning in 5th grade)- unsuccessfully tried Singapore, stumbled through Saxon 65 (5th) and 76 (6th), bungled through pre-alg (7th) and alg1 (8th) with various materials, successfully used Math-U-See Geometry (9th) and Algebra 2 (10th), currently clawing his way ...

Re: Singapore question

So we are almost total HOD converts  ...but I'm still a hold out on math...we use Horizons and I love it...that said...I'm being pulled to try Singapore sort of "on the side"....I am enticed by the mental math side of it...so here's my questions for those of you that use it...do I HAVE to have...

Then, he will be working on division again in 3B! :D

Division is also addressed again in 4A. You may want to wait until at least after the division in 3B. If it is still bothering you, go with your gut and do some review over the summer.

Re: singapore help

Singapore is great on concepts. I do not know what level your ds is using, but concepts are often presented again at a deeper level in the next book. If, however, you feel that your ds needs more practice with division, Kumon now makes grade level practice workbooks that focus on skills particular t...

Re: Can't figure this out...

Try asking questions while you read. When you read a name, ask your child right then. What was his name? If he doesn't know, ask him to listen carefully for the answer and repeat the sentence. Do this with all the questions.

Re: Do You Use Any Singapore Supplements?

I did not use anything with Singapore PM1. With PM1 we just used dice, cards, dominoes, etc.

With PM2 ds used the Intensive Practice book. It definitely moves the child beyond the workbook.

Re: question for those who have a child with dyslexia

I have concerns that my five year old has dyslexia. I know she's young. I took her to an eye doctor because she said it looked like the words were moving on the paper. She was diagnosed with having double vision. She is going to need vision therapy. My youngest has apraxia and when I had her that t...

Re: How do I fix this???

First, this is about my son, and his abilities. His Learning Disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, fine motor skills). He's smart, but some things just don't reach him. My oldest ds now 17yo has these same issues. And I'm frustrated. And feel like a failure. He's come sooo far, but now we're stuck, a...

Re: Grade levels when homeschooling

I wasn't planning on having him start Kindergarden this year had he gone to traditional school. I assume that you are asking what grade should be written at the top of the transcript that you are submitting to some sort of reporting agency. In that case you have already answered your own question. ...

Re: What does "Masterly Inactivity" look like in your home?

I have discussed this before with other mothers. What do education and masterly inactivity look like in our home? Well, for education I try to equip them each year with the materials/ support that they need to progress in the mastery topics of math and English each. I try to expose them to the surve...
