Re: HOD High School is a HUGE help!

Thank you for taking the time to write all this out for us to read. It is so helpful to hear from others who have used the high school guides.

In His love,

Re: Carrie and Julie's Dad

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15 Carrie and Julie's Dad's death is an end for all who linger here, but is a wonderful beginning for him as he begins eternity with the One who looks upon his entrance into heaven as precious. Praying for comfort for you all an...

Re: Move Up to CTC or ? - UPDATE!

Guess what? My ds did a written narration on his own yesterday!! :D :D He asked for a little help with the spelling of a couple of words, but otherwise he constructed the narration on his own. We were both so excited! He said, "That means I can do CTC now." He knows that CTC is going to be more inde...

Re: Move Up to CTC or ?

Thanks for all your helpful replies. Lynn, He is not able to write a good paragraph. He can write a string of sentences, but organizing them into a cohesive paragraph is torture for both of us. Because of this, I have avoided the weekly creative writing assignments in Preparing, and focused on...

Re: Move Up to CTC or ?

Melissa, Thanks for your response. :D Yes, he can do oral narrations most of the time. It depends on the kind of book he is being asked to narrate. The process of writing is the biggest problem here. He is physically able to write, and I don't think that is a hindrance. But the process of mentally o...

Move Up to CTC or ?

I need a little advice, and though I looked through previous threads, I couldn't find exactly the answer I needed for this particular child. I have a ds 12 who is a struggling learner. He is currently finishing up Preparing (on Unit 32), and I have CTC all ready for him to start. However, I am reall...

Re: OT: What to use to sharpen colored pencils

We use a small metal hand held pencil sharpener. It definitely does not work to sharpen them in my electric pencil sharpener. I think we bought this type from Barry Stebbing when he came for some art classes my children attended, but we recently bought a new one from Wal Mart. Here is a link...

Re: Running 4 Guides and Surviving!!

Sonya, Here's my schedule, which is actually more of a routine. I don't go by the times exactly, but I do try to stay close to them. It really helps not to let one subject/child drag things out too long. Between 7 and 8 AM Vision therapy for 20 minutes each for 2 of my boys (thankfully this won't la...

Re: Running 4 Guides and Surviving!!

We are also doing 4 guides and finding it possible through Him Who makes All things possible. :) I have 2 high schoolers in MTMM, a 6th grader finishing Preparing/starting CTC, a 3rd grader finishing Beyond/starting Bigger and a K'er starting Kindergarten. Whew! I, too, thought that my whole day wou...

Re: Who is doing MTMM?

My two oldest who are going into 9th grade will be using MTMM this year. I'm so glad to see so many others using MTMM for 9th grade. I really felt this is where they should be, but I second guessed myself since they "could" do the new high school guide. We are starting on Monday (probably at half sp...

NCHE Conference - THANKS!

I wanted to say thank you to Mike, Carrie and Julie for taking the time to come to the NCHE Conference. It was such a blessing to meet them. It was so helpful to be able to talk to Carrie about using upcoming guides with my learning challenged son. It really encouraged me that we CAN do this. :D So ...

Re: Need some advice on combining

I just wanted to say "Thank You", to Carrie for her response to the OP. This really helped me to understand where Carrie is coming from when she so passionately encourages parents to place each child in the guide that best fits them. It helps to know where you have come from, Carrie, and what has sh...

Re: Help with High School Plans

Carrie, Thanks for coming back to share some more input on my situation. :) I did have one other thought that may solve my unusual sequencing problem. What if we did the following: 9th - RTR for World History 10th - World Geography HS guide 11th - Am. History HS Guide #1 12th - Am. Hist. HS Guide #2...

Re: Having 2nd thoughts-high school or not? Ref. to Rev?

Pam, You are not alone! That may be the only helpful words I have to share. :) I am right there with you (actually one year ahead). My daughter is 14 and will be 15 in May. She is doing Prealgebra this year and is struggling through the math part of physical science. She loves Biology and nature sci...
