Re: Help with High School Plans
Carrie, Thank you so much for responding. :D To answer your first question, I think my children would be best placed into MTMM (based on the current Placement chart), and I would have no problem placing my children into the new World Geography guide in everything except for Language Arts. My daughte...

Here is what I am considering using to beef it up: Literature AIG Pilgrim's Progress Study Total Language Plus Lit Study of The High King by Lloyd Alexander Total Language Plus Lit Study of Treasure Island H...

Re: Problems with Narrating CHOW - UPDATE
Carrie, Thank you so much for your prayers and again for your encouragement. I wanted to let you know how it is going. I haven't had to write too many names on the board as I realized that a lot of the big/unfamiliar names have pronunciation keys right in the book. So, we just look over those before...

Re: Problems with Narrating CHOW
Ladies, Thank you all for taking the time to answer. I really was ready to throw in the towel. Learning has always been a struggle for this child, and I work hard at finding the programs and curricula that will help him succeed. It is exhausting, at times. :( I appreciate your thoughts and ideas on ...

Re: Problems with Narrating CHOW
Lynn, Lynn, Your son sounds just like mine. When he was reading Bound for Oregon , he would come out of his room and go on and on about where the family was, what had happened to them, etc. But when it comes to more factual reading like the Dinosaur science book or CHOW, he really struggled. It has ...

Problems with Narrating CHOW - UPDATE
My 11 yo ds who is a fifth grader has been doing Preparing this year. He has done pretty well with most of it, however, he really struggles to "get" the reading of CHOW and the Dinosaur science book. He has finished the Dinosaur book and moved onto the H.A. Rey star book, and he is enjoying that muc...

I haven't looked at Friendly Chemistry. I appreciate your recommendation. I'll have to give it a look/see.

Physical Science
Since the Geography Sneak Peak discussion was locked, I wanted to open a new topic to answer Carrie's question about the timing of Phys Sci for my dd. She is currently in 9th grade and taking Apologia Phys Sci. Since she is not planning to take a full blown Chemistry course (due to all the math invo...

Re: Sneak Peek #1: New World Geography Guide
What if your child has already done Apologia Physical science? Would there be enough new/different info to make it worth doing this course after Apologia Phys Science? My dd does not plan to go and take Chemistry, so I thought this integrated course might be a good way for her to be introduced to th...

Re: Looking long-term we won't finish on time - should I wor
I agree with what the previous posters have shared and also wanted to add that you really shouldn't look that far down the road. I have an 11 yo ds who also has struggles with reading and especially spelling who is currently in Preparing and thriving. I have seen great improvement in him this year, ...

Re: Grades for High School
Angie, Thanks for the specifics on how you graded without using a traditional test. I can see how that would be better than just being able to spout a list of unrelated facts for a test. However, doing it that way means I have to have a good working knowledge of the subject I am evaluating him on. C...

Re: Grades for High School
I didn't have HOD to use for my now graduate, but used a similar style. His math and english were graded according to how many right/wrong, since they were textbooks (Teaching Textbooks and Rod & Staff). For other things I leaned toward "effort" as a guide for his grades. If he did just the basics,...

Grades for High School
Hello All, For those of you who are using the middle school guides for highschoolers, how are you providing grades for their transcripts? I have been looking on past posts and on the sticky note posts about how to bump up the current guides to make them high school worthy, and I get how to do that. ...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...
To your new post Carrie, I have some responses. I would put the science plans in the appendix if you are wanting to save room on the daily plan pages. We have taken HOD with us other places and done our work. If it was separate, it's just another thing I have to remember to grab whereas if it is in...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...
I asked my daughter (who is currently a 9th grader not using HOD, but hoping to return to it next year) what she would prefer-- daily plans or weekly grid (we've used both), and she said daily plans. So, Carrie can chalk up another vote for DAILY PLANS. :D I would like to add, that I get why Carrie ...
