Re: HOD Inspired Exercise for the kids this LONG winter

Julie You're the best! My darling children have been bouncing off the walls the last few weeks. In turn, that has led to some "bouncing" at each other! So this afternoon we used your circuit idea. WE had a blast. I may not be able to walk tomorrow, but it's all good...I think? They have already aske...

Re: If DD is doing poorly w spelling, should I use dictation?

This is just my 2 Cents...as I claim no knowledge of anything at this time!! But my dd9 did HORRIBLE with lists...not that she couldn't memorize how to spell for the test, but it never carried over into anything...so somehow her brain is geared toward dictation bc she does GREAT at it...and by great...

Re: DS doesn't understand long divison

If it's just the "process" he's having trouble with...I would get out some graph paper. It helps keep the columns in order and helps them figure out what step to do next. You can also highlight down for hundreds, a different color for tens and so on...which helps make it even more visual.

Re: Trying to hang in there...

I have yet to homeschool without a small child running around...although I'm getting REALLY close and that is keeping me plugged in!! You have received great suggestions...naptimes are awesome...sometimes lunch time can be used to do something orally....bc the little ones are busy with food. B...

Re: Question about Bigger

I'm doing Bigger with a 9 and 7 year old...and I do think it is a lot for my 7 year old. But I must say it is "stretching" her in the places I know she needs it...so we carry on. I think the suggestion to do one page a day for awhile would be a great idea. I also have my 7 year old only do one vocab...

Re: ACK...I keep coming back to HOD, but I need help..

When we first started HOD...I felt like the history and science wasn't "enough," too short for this to really be working...I thought  ...but with HOD, I had to learn to remember that it is Charlotte Mason at its core....short, sweet, time to still be kids and to have fun...so yes, it is short ...

Re: Bigger Timeline

Thanks Ladies for all your great ideas and pictures. I actually combined a few ideas...I think....I took Daisy's three fold idea...put it on card stock and attached the middle page to a file folder...so it all folds up and fits nicely inside a file folder for extra protection from the two year old.....

Re: Is it enough?

I can add that it is exactly right! We did BLHFG with my 1 and 3 grader last year...and I did have moments (at first) of wondering if it was "enough." But my girls were having such a good time and retaining SO much of the information, that I really let that feeling go and was able to just enjoy our ...

Book Projects to send home

I tried to search to see if this had been answered, but I couldn't find it...so I'm sorry if I'm asking again. A friend of mine just mentioned that Book Projects to Send Home Grade 4 and Grade 5 are now out of print. We are only using Grade 2 now but these are my dd favorite activities. So my questi...

Bigger Timeline

I have a question about the timeline for Bigger. How did you set it up so that the squares are big enough that your child can put everything in the square? Any ideas or pictures would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks Carrie,

It just dawned on my last night that I don't actually have to have ALL the books right away  ...I can pick a few to get started and go from there...it was a lightbulb moment...which you reinforced....thanks!

Re: Bigger only or Bigger and Beyond?

I'm not sure how much I can help...except to say welcome and you are going to LOVE HOD! I am doing Bigger with a (next fall) 7 year old and 9 year old and I think it will be a great match. And I was going to say you mentioned your older son was having trouble with spelling lists and then actually US...
