King of the Wind question

Hello All: We are getting ready to start our adventure unit with DITHR. I'm trying to chose what to read for our story time. I'm about half way through Marguerite Henry's book, King of the Wind . (I'm a slow reader!) I'm wondering why Carrie said (in the Appendix of Beyond) that it's not for sensiti...

Re: 2 Program families, Care to share your schedules?

I'll post our "schedule," if you'd like to call it that, because I haven't seen anyone else who does it this way. We are doing Little Hands (ds) and Beyond and DITHOR (dd). We do math first because that is the subject my dd struggles with most. I write all of our subjects for the day on a piec...

Re: Am I true homeschooler now?

Too cool, too cool!

This will be our 3rd year homeschooling, but sometimes it still feels new. As I was writing a post for someone else, I thought, "Gee, I've actually had experience with this that might help someone else! I can't believe it!"

Re: RE: HAS ANYONE USED HOOKED ON PHONICS FOR LHFHG?

Dear Briana: I just discovered HOD this summer and we started Beyond and Little Hands a couple of weeks ago. We are loving it! (well, except for math, but that's a different post :) ) I did all of the HOP boxes with my dd. She loved the phonics reading books that went with them, but the actual pract...

Re: Any "bad" experiences with Math U See?

Hi! I can't say we had a "bad" experience w/MUS Alpha, but it wasn't as successful as I would have liked. My daughter has a rough time with math, so I had high hopes for doing most of our math with manipulatives. We did about 1/4 of the book last year. What I learned through the program is that my d...

Re: Record Keeping

Hi Misty: My state requires a plan book...we don't have to turn it in - just have it available if we are ever questioned. Let me share from my vast experience of 2 weeks with HOD :D . The first week I wrote all of Carrie's plans into my planbook. It was nice to have all of my plans for the day in on...

Re: OT-Can I ask for prayer again

Dear W2W: I have enjoyed reading some of your other posts and feel like I've gotten to know you just a little bit from them. You have really been on my heart since I read this post...I've been praying for you! My dad has "fibro," (that's what our family calls it,) and so I've learned a little about ...

Re: Beyond, I need discipline.

Dear Misty: We are on day 10 of Beyond and Little Hands - doing all of the boxes with nothing added at this point - and home schooling took almost all day today! I was drained! I'm glad we had leftovers from last night or we would have been eating frozen pizza! Here are a couple of thoughts...glean ...

Re: Roll Call: Can we share what HOD programs we're doing...

We just started Beyond with my 7 year old daughter this week - on a day perfect to read "The Storm". It has been a FUN week! From all of your great advice, we'll be starting Little Hands with my 4yo son as soon as we get it. This is our first year w/HOD. I don't know anyone in my area using HOD (I f...

Re: OT- Scheduling your life-can you fix mine Hehehe!

Cool topic and ideas! I am a perpetual list maker. If there are more than 3 things bouncing around in my head, I have to write it down or it drives me nuts. On my calendar I have taped my list that has my regular lists of "To Do," "Call" and "Go" (errands), but I also have a list of things that I ha...

Re: starting Beyond and have copywork question

Tansy: Is keeping track of 3 notebooks difficult or does it make things easier to have each subject separate? We may start by doing all of the copywork and then scale back if we need to. It depends on the day how much my daughter is willing to write. What do you use your notebook for? BTW, we did ou...

Re: Hi and placement question

Sorry to keep drawing this out forever, but I think we are FINALLY going w/Little Hands. I like the thought of not rushing my son and just adding in the things he needs. It will be neat to see which parts he enjoys doing with his big sis in Beyond, too. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of ...

starting Beyond and have copywork question

We are starting BLHFHG tomorrow and I can't wait! I haven't read far enough ahead in the manual to figure out how many copywork notebooks my daughter needs. I know she'll need one poetry. Does she also need one for history and/or science or any other subjects? I'm new to copywork. Should my daughter...

copy

This isn't an answer to your question, but sometimes when I forget to copy something, we use a top loading plastic page protecter that I have cut the sides out of and lay it over the page I want my dd to do. My dd then uses a dry-erase marker on it. It helps to clip the page at the top, too, so it d...
