Thanks, Carrie. I think I "get it" now. I will plan on both extensions then--one for my 12yo and one for my 8 (will then be 9yo). I appreciate having my daughter learn more academic independence as we go through the years. I will probably space out my purchases through the year in order to balance t...

Igniting Your Writing and IEW

I am considering using Igniting Your Writing for my 6th grader. We currently use the IEW program and have found it to be an excellent program! My children have grown so much in their writing. However, I would like to expose my children, particularly my 12yo at this point, to other writing styles. IE...

Preparing for Preparing

We are now in Unit 7 of Bigger with my 8yod. We both love, love, love the program! I also have my 12yo using the extension pack. She is also enjoying the year's study. I do "extend" the extension for her as a 6th grader by adding written narration, some report writing, etc. to "beef up" the cu...

Annaz, Here are my suggestions based on my many years as a classroom teacher and now as a homeschool teacher and mom. You may do these things already. 1. Check for understanding. If your daughter understands what is expected of her, she should be able to restate the question back to you. If she cann...

Conference Schedule?

Hi Carrie and anyone else who knows, Does the conference schedule on the HOD website indicate all of the conferences where Carrie is speaking or all of the conferences where HOD will have a booth to sell curriculum? In other words, if my local homeschool conference isn't mentioned, does that mean th...

Thank you for the eclipse information! We had a very clear cold night here. The eclipse was beautiful! We all stood outside with coats over our pajamas amazed at the Lord's handiwork. This was the most beautiful lunar eclipse I ever remember seeing. It is a good thing it was last night and not tonig...

Thank You, Carrie!

Carrie, I am more and more amazed with the thought and concern you put into each aspect of your manuals. I hope you have at least some idea of how much you are appreciated. You know I continue to pray for your family. Please pace yourself! Don't burn out! Thank you!! Adding the Bible content into th...

Carrie,

By ALL means, stick to the main things! We are praying for your family, as I am sure that you remain very busy all year preparing the wonderful manuals. :)

I am thankful that you are an "Olive" and not prone to go off in tangents like I am!

Hello, I have a related question about the book list. What reading levels does it cover? Does it just go up to about 6th grade level, or does it extend to the 8th grade level? Also, I remember someone on this site asking if it was available as a download. The answer was no. But I think it would sell...

First Day Success!!!

:D We did it! We had an amazing first day using "Bigger Hearts for His Glory." What a lovely curriculum. I asked my daughter what her favorite things were and she said, "EVERYTHING!" When I really pinned her down she said she liked science and cursive the best (We chose Cheerful Cursive as our metho...

Yep. Once you are used to saying something wrong it is difficult to make the switch.

When I was a little girl I always thought the crayon in my Crayola box was called Magnet-a. It is still tough for me to call it by its correct color name--Magenta! :)

Just this past December my children and I were all singing in the car. We were singing "Holly Jolly Christmas" which is kind of a silly song, but it was being played on the radio and we were singing along! There's a line in the song that says, "Somebody waits for you. Kiss her once for me." In a nic...

Thank you so much. That is a wonderful testimonial for DITHOR. I just spent some time looking over the main manual. I can see where this could be very helpful! Actually, I wish I had these materials when I taught in the classroom. Now, I only was given the Levels 2-3, and 4-5 supplements along with ...

MFW is a very popular program now, and the resale prices are not that much less than the purchase prices. If it is causing you guilt, I would sell it. There is a yahoo group set up just for selling MFW products, so you would probably get a good price there. (a mild disclaimer: I usually take my own ...

YIKES! I just want to Amazon to see how much "Days on the Farm" by Kim Lewis would cost. At B&N is was $9.95 (before our 25% discount). Amazon doesn't offer the book new any more. Four used copies are available starting at $39.65. Maybe we should go back to B&N and buy up the rest of those "Days on ...
