Re: Narration Vs. Summary

So should we be typing out the oral narrations? (Sorry, it's been about 5 years since we've used HOD, and I don't remember doing that back then. :? )

Narration Vs. Summary

Can someone please elaborate a little on the difference between a "narration" and a "summary"? I keep seeing in the guides warnings against "summarizing" rather than "narration." I guess I must be confused about what the difference is. Thanks a bunch. We will be using WG and CTC this fall.

Re: How much preparation before school starts?

That was a really wonderful link from Julie. I was actually dropping by today to post a similar question about summer prep for CTC and WG. Are there any links about getting ready for either of those guides??? Also, I'd love to know how much reading you all typically do ahead of time over the summer?...

Thank you so much Carrie, I can't tell you what a relief it is to have such a user-friendly, stress-free plan for high school. :) Now, if we can only survive the upper level math, Lol. :?

Re: Giving grades for High School narrations and summaries

Thank you, Tidbits! That is very helpful. I have only used the Little Hearts thru Bigger Hearts guides, and that was at least 5 years ago(?). I see from your post that what's going to help me out the most is to have the narration guidelines in-hand that you mentioned. I just placed my order yesterda...

Giving grades for High School narrations and summaries

Hi there, Please forgive me if this question has already been answered before, but I have searched the board and haven't been able to find an answer to my question. We are really looking forward to using the World Geography with my rising 9th grader next year, and I have spent a lot of time reading ...

Re: What do you do on Day 5..

Next year on our fifth day, we are going to do Artistic Pursuits and something for music (??). Eventually, we will add our foreign language studies and our state study during that extra time. I will plan the "fifth day" to coincide with the day of the week that we have co-op in the afternoon. I love...

Re: Would _My Side of the Mtn._ make a good adventure ....

We actually just listened to My Side of the Mountain on audio book in the car a couple weeks ago, when we traveled out of state. It was WONDERFUL!! My dh even loved it! Our car trip flew by, and actually we arrived at our destination a chapter or two away from the ending, and we were all disappointe...

Re: Cheerful Cursive

I am in the same boat with my 3rd grade ds. We are using Cheerful Cursive to correct some things that I didn't like from BJU cursive. He too struggles with the large font, but we are working through it quickly to get to the part where the font size shrinks down. We plan to just work through it the b...

Re: old kingfisher encyclopedia

I'm not sure which edition Carrie has, but there are lots of "old" Kingfisher encyclopedias available on used book websites like half.com, abebooks.com, and alibris.com to name a few. Good luck!

Re: What philosophy does HOD fall under?

For me, HOD is the perfect balance of CM and traditional. I have always desired to incorporate a CM flair to our homeschool, but I also desired to stay on a traditional scope and sequence for the 3 R's. Whenever I tried more "pure" approaches to CM style such as with Ambleside, I felt I wasn't going...
