Re: The Reading Lesson-(wrongly posted before)

Wow, I could have written your post. My ds (6yr) seems to be having lots of tears with The Reading Lesson too. I have tried going super slow, backing up a lesson or two, playing games with the words, ect. Finally after pulling teeth to do a page or two a day for a year and a half and lots of tears I...

Singapore 1A

Ds is almost finished with Singapore 1A we are on page 110 today. On this page he is given addition and subtraction problems in the teens without any pictures. Is he supposed to be able to do those in his head without manipulatives at this point? If so we are in trouble because he definitely needs t...

Re: Handwriting question - Grade 1 Need Suggestions

Ds is copying the Bible verse for each week. We don't do the whole verse in one day though. I have him do a few words each day over the course of the week. Although last week he went and got his paper on his own and finished it two days early :D . I am trying to take it slow though since we did not ...

Re: Skipping part of TRL

Thank you. I do think that is part of it. I think he just needs more activities and tires of just reading the page for the day. I think we will try some of the activities you mentioned. That would probably be better then pushing on. We just had a really bad week this week with it. It has been a stru...

Skipping part of TRL

Ds has hit a rode block at the end of lesson 15. We have had our struggles all the way through but it has gotten really hard to get him to read from the lesson book. I am thinking of just having him move on to the emerging readers, because I think he is just bored of the same silly stories. Do you t...

Re: New -LHFHG for 1st grader and 4 year old?

I have two that are exactly 2 yrs apart(2wks short ). Dd is 4 and ds is 6 I am also thinking about doing LHFHG with them together. They did LHTH 2x together already at 2 and 4, and then again at 3 and 5(with K math and phonics for ds).In academics I really feel that dd and ds are more like one yr ap...

Re: TRL and a three year old

I have been using TRL with ds for K this year, and dd who is 3 (almost 4 now) asked to "do reading" too, so what I do is I get out the book when she asks not every day only when she remembers and I will let her sound out and read as much as she wants. Some days I have to stop her because she would g...

Combining???

Ds is turning 6 at the end of May and I was planning on starting LHFHG for 1st grade in June. Dd is turning 4 in the beginning of May. I am trying to decide whether it is feasible to combine them and do LHFHG with both of them doing it at half speed over 2yrs so that dd will be 6 when we start Beyon...

Re: OT: Co-ops

We do have a homeschool group here but they really don't have younger kids and the main activity this year was a co op ancient history class that was for 1st grade up. I feel the same way about HOD though. I feel like we already do enough school with our LHTH/ LHFHG mix and that my dc really don't n...

Re: OT: Co-ops

The thing with storytime at the library is that the kids usually just go listen to the story, do the craft, and go home they really don't get a chance to play together. 6 hours is a lot to me it is two days a week for 3 hours I would really rather just have something maybe one morning a week or poss...

Re: OT: Co-ops

Thats what makes it so hard. I ask the kids and they say yes they want to go even though I can see they are bored during alot of it. I guess for them the playtime makes it worth going.

OT: Co-ops

Ladies, I know this is off topic but I really need some advice. I am homeschooling my 5yr old and my 3yr old (mostly just listening in). About a month and a half ago I was talking to another mom and found out that she was doing a co-op with another mom. I thought it sounded like fun and my kids real...

Re: Wars in LHFHG???

Yes, and also I saw that it briefly touches on the war for independance, and the civil war. There is also the story of Polycarp that I was wondering about. I just do not feel personally that I want my 6 yr old introduced to that yet. I know it is only a few pages and I could skip reading them but I ...

In the texts used for LHFHG history I noticed they discuss wars. Are these pages used in the plans?

Kind of OT :English Text???

Any ideas on a good English text for an adult? My husband is from Mexico and his English Grammer and Writing is in need of help. He is going back to school to get his degree but has not been able to pass the writing portion of the Compass test even with taking the remediation class at the college be...
